GrownFolk came about as we evolved and got older. We began to realize that its not just about going to the studio and rapping, its about taking control of your own destiny like grownups do.

The internet makes you so much more accessible to the public. It becomes your street team, your pr rep, and your agent in some cases. It can sell you when you can be there to physically sell yourself.

We are open to signing a contract with a major label. You just have to be smart about what you sign and who you sign with. There are things you have to give up to be signed to a label, just don't give up your soul.

Shirl and Al have known each other for over 10 years. They came together on their first collaboration in 1997. They both started out in groups that did not work out. As a result they both became solo artist, but teamed together in the musical family "Maddhouse". Wanting to change and become more mature in their music they both decided to form GrownFolk Entertainment to advance their musically status. Although they are both solo artist respectively, they record together in addition to deejaying and hosting gigs.
