Why this name?
Long story, not important enough to get into.
Do you play live?
Whenever the opportunity presents itself. Basically, it has to be worth it. It's a hassle to pack up my turntables and move around doing little shows. So in order for me to put in the effort, there has to be some incentive.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It levels the playing field in a lot of ways. Ten years ago, garage bands would have no chance of getting publicity on their own. Now I can rip files into mp3s and put them all over the internet.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It'd be nice to make money doing what I love, but f*** being famous. I'd be hesitant to sign with a real label because that could easily take the enjoyment out of what I do. I do this because I like doing it, not so that people will like me.
Band History:
My parents made me take a reading course in eigth grade at Sylvan Learning Center because my dumb ass couldn't read. They said if I tried hard, they'd buy me a set of turntables. I tried, and they bought me turntables. They were mad shaky, $100 Gemini turntables, thrown together with a $30 mixer in to a "Starter Kit" for like $250. How that is a deal, is beyond me. They were belt-driven and had shitty generic cartridges, which made them impossible to scratch on. Somehow I pulled it off, and even DJ'd dances and such at local schools. Before any of this, I had been using the computer to manipulate sounds and make beats. Once I got turntables I felt like a real DJ. This gave me the motivation to actually put some money and effort into it, and get established. I have a decent selection of beats now, with more on the way.
Your influences?
Primus, RJD2, Led Zeppelin, DJ Shadow, Notorious BIG, DJ Qbert, The Gorillaz, Poison The Well, D-Styles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, James Brown, X-ecutioners, Mars Volta, you know that type of shit.
