I originally created Morbid Toast in La Habra, CA in 1983. Inspired by Venom, the Toast's writing team of Jamie and myself soon penned several 1980's La Habra classics including "Beer Fart," "I'm Smelly, All I Eat Is Jelly," and "Bruce Springsteen" among others. In addition to the songs being be well known and well loved in La Habra, Jamie and I used to sing them acoustically on Hollywood Blvd. and hand out Xerox copies of handwritten lyrics. We were not trying to get money - we did it just for fun and to shock and annoy. Those were some crazy times for us - young and stupid enough to do anything. And we did.
Unfortunately no recordings of Morbid Toast survive, at least none that I am aware of. If they do, they are on a cassette somewhere lost to the mists of time and would have been recorded live on a boom box. I'd sure love to find one, but it's not likely.
The song that is posted here as Morbid Toast was actually written by Jamie several years ago but is in true Toast fashion and spirit. To the best of my knowledge, the song is recorded in analog, as Jamie is not a computer geek. And just like Morbid Toast over twenty years ago, it is a local favorite around La Habra. While I have not lived in California since the 1980's, Jamie has been there the whole time. I myself have been riding all over the USA on Harleys but I decided that I want to start writing again, so here we go.
Look for new Morbid Toast soon, including new versions of our ancient "hits," I still remember all of them. The songwriting team of Jamie and myself was always gold, and there is no reason why it won't continue to be that way.

Why this name?
No reason - it just came to me one night and I said it and everyone liked it, so I kept it. It wasn't even a band until I drew a faux album cover one day and made up some song names, one of which was "Beer Fart" which Jamie wrote, then we added a couple of other songs that we had written together and all of the sudden Toast was a real live entity. I do not remember all of the faux song names that I had created, two that I do remember were "Uncle Satan" and "Don't Burn The Toast" which was a direct rip from Venom's "Don't Burn The Witch." I can still see the album cover that I drew vividly in my mind - it was a pen and ink drawing of a kitchen counter with a toaster on it and some bread sticking out, and there was an arm coming in from the right side of the cover with the hand and finger on the knob of the toaster, ready to push it and the toast down - of course the arm and hand was clearly that of a demon or devil. It was quite hilarious and of course will be on the cover of the next Morbid Toast release.
Do you play live?
Not since the early 1980's but hope to again.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
How else would some guy in Russia hear about Morbid Toast?
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If you think that you can handle us...
Band History:
Please note that "Bloody Nylons" was recorded several years ago in analog form on a cheap four track cassette recorder. I went over it a bit with Waves Diamond but it was primarily just a remastering of the song as a single track. I do want to bring the lead guitar up a bit and will be working on that.
Your influences?
This concept of this band was heavily influenced by Venom. We also dug Motorhead and Metallica at the time, just remember that Metallica had only released two albums at the time. As a matter of fact, I was at the Master of Puppets show where somebody was killed after somebody else jumped from a balcony during "Jump In The Fire" and landed on them. I also got to see Cliff's bass solo, he was killed a couple of months later. I also got beat up by about fifteen cops and security guards there - no reason, they were just having "fun." I started to fight back and one cop actually told me to just "accept it" or else I would get beat up AND arrested, as opposed to just getting beat up. F'in a**holes. F tha police!!!
Favorite spot?
Too many for me to list. I've been a Harley vagabond for a long time. I am highly preferential to the open roads of Texas and Kansas though.
Equipment used:
Morbid Toast was always analog but I will bring it into the 21st century without taking the fire away.
Anything else...?
Please let me know if you like this song or are curious to hear recreations of the old stuff. As I said, this song here is not technically Morbid Toast, but when I saw Jamie last year for the first time in over ten years, he told me that it was in the spirit of the Toast and as soon as I heard it I agreed.
