Why this name?
From being in the business twenty two years, I was given the name DMystro, by the late great Barry White's and one of his road guys, while on tour working with him and chante moore during the mid ninetys.
Do you play live?
Yes,USA, Yes I have live band that travels with me, Europe, USA, Canada,. Yes I love to perform live at music festivals, and music conferences, and acoustically it's sets you a part from everyone else. During a concert tour for the Military I performed in front few thousand people during USO tour and received a standing ovation, back in the day and during performance at clubs to hear people shout D'MYSTRO, D'MYSTRO, has always been a compliments.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's powerful being artistic this day and time, the technology has given Major Independants the power to survive the mainstream attention, and sometimes grow as big a major market artist.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Well, maybe, it depends on the legalitys of the contract and the stipualtions surrounding the producing, and all in stuff. Some contracts from hell will not allow you creative control anymore, some don't, me being a songwriter first and producer second and professional musician third. It's important that I write music that is heart felt and real, so I would say as long as creative control clause it in my favor and the points and bump ups are all air tight and I have five attorneys look at it to confirm the recording contract madness maybe, I am open for talks/discussion in signing a short term publishing deals only.
Band History:
My band is professional cats that have played with several major acts. And been with me few years so we keep their vibe on the staight forward tip of the business. Which means we play the gigs that pay the bills and keep it real with us, being this all we do we have to be selective, some bar's cannot afford $5,000 grand or better stage production..
Your influences?
Old school Artists, Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight, Barry White, Kurtis Mayfield, Teddy Pentagrass, Stevie Wonder, the Tempts.. and Prince.. Ojays the real performers of the game.
Favorite spot?
Paris, France
