SoundClick artist: Tha Sigma - Island Rap, Hip Hop, Hardcore Hip Hop

This artist has been doing live performances for eight years. Been doing studio recordings and mixtapes for six years and have contripbuted to the growth of the island's hip hop scene. He formed the Ruff Kross Kru in 1998 and helped create the locally aired Andrew Dick Show. Tha Sigma is a different kind of rapper, often referred to as a rapper's rapper. His style is conscious at times and sometimes he hardcore. A must listen to all hip hop fans.

Do you play live?

I perform at local shows, I open for various artists that come to the island. I remeberthis one time for Mardi Gras(Carnival) I performed with so much energy that I passed out backstage.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?

I think it opens up new doors for indie artists and rising stars to reach a broader audience

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

Well, I might if the deal is right. I mean I dont want to lose my integrity for a record deal, especially how things are going with these big labels where they want to put u out as this image. But if I can get a good one that lets me express myself as an artist that'll be alright.

Your influences?

My brother got me into hip hop, I mean I started out listening to pop and trance and that hardcore metal, but then my bro brought a biggie track home and played it over and over again. The the Wu Tang came into our house and it was all over. Now its Hip Hop till the End!!

Favorite spot?

My favorite city is Hartford Connecticut. I love my birthplace, but nothing makes me feel better that driving down the Ave and blasting music.
