Austrian Melodic Power Metal Band

Eleftheria was founded in 2004, and has been in existence in it's current lineup since about that time. We play Melodic Power Metal, with a lot of different influences due to the diverse musical backgrounds of our various members. So we include elements from Black or Death metal as well as folks elements and traditional Heavy Metal parts. Furthermore, the availability of 4 singing voices adds to the diversity of the songs. Anyone interested in traditional European-style Metal should risk a download, and maybe even someone who doesn't especially like that genre might be pleasantly surprised.
Why this name?
Actually, "Eleftheria" is Greek (and also used as a name for girls in Greece) and means "Freedom". And since that is a term that goes together with the kind of music & content we have, we thought it would fit quite nicely ;)
Do you play live?
We like to play live very much, in fact so far we are probably a better live than studio band ;) But we're working to improve the studio work as well of course! We've only played a few shows so far, the best experience was probably a Metal Band Contest in May this year, where we made 2nd place (out of 10 bands) in our only second ever gig, and even scored a pretty good ranking in that contest's finals!

Right now we only play in Austria (mostly Vienna and surroundings, but we also played in Graz), but of course we hope that some day we may be able to play elsewhere as well!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Well it sure does change the industry! I think for new and upcoming bands and solo artists it is a great way to make themselves heard, and for some groups and artists it is even a big chance to manage their own careers (since only a very few "chosen" get the opportunity to receive major label deals which finance their record productions, promotion etc...). Of course, the issue of mp3 downloads remains to be discussed; but we generally think it is a good way to learn about new bands before blindly buying an album, and we think that many people will rather buy an original album if they first hear some samples of that band's or artist's music, when otherwise they might never buy an album of theirs in the first place!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course we would ;) Even in the short time we've been together as a band we've come to know that producing a really good sounding record in high quality is an extremely costly thing and it is very hard for young bands to finance that. So this support of labels is still needed in many aspects, we think!
Your influences?
What you can expect from Eleftheria (hopefully more mp3s to come in the near future): Heavy guitars, great melodies, interesting and sometimes thoughtful lyrics, and hopefully a great time listening to our songs!

Our musical influences range from bands like Stratovarius and Hammerfall over the terrific vocal works of Savatage, over darker regions of metal like Dimmu Borgir and Children of Bodom to classics like Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Judas Priest and many contemporary bands from the Melodic Metal Genre (Rhapsody, Kamelot, Human Fortress, Altaria, Sonata Arctica, Helloween...)
Favorite spot?
Vienna, of course ;) The city of music itself!
Equipment used:
Well since we are a metal band we only have some keyboards in ways of electronic equipment. Our keyboarder uses Korg, Roland and Yamaha boards.
Anything else...?
