Welcome! And thanks for checking out this site!
Tom Eck is a singer/songwriter who lives in historic Williamsburg, Virginia with his wife of 17 years and four children. He writes and performs with a classic acoustic folk sound. During his career he has performed in a Christian Rock band named Fire Escape, a Bluegrass band named Copper Creek, and another named The Nordiques, and independently under his own personal recording label Atomeck Songs. He has been writing and performing music for over 20 years. He looks forward to venturing into this new avenue to promote his music, specifically his Jamestown 400th Anniversary Song.
Now, let's meet Tom Eck...
Why this name?
Atomeck Songs has been my own personal label for the past 25 years. You can see, I'm sure, why I stick with it! It's great how it just worked out like that!
Do you play live?
Sometimes, but I've been busy raising a family for the past 16 years so haven't had as much opportunity as I did in my youth.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It provides a wonderful opportunity for artists to share their songs. It gives them an avenue that was unavailable even just a few years ago - it opens up a world of possibilities for them.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Absolutely!
Band History:
I have been an independent song writer and artist for the past 25 years. I played in a few different bands in my younger days, and that was a great experience, however I find I am more comfortable being a solo artist.
Your influences?
I would have to say that some of my favorite artists have pretty distinct styles. I like music with meaning, music with a message. I definitely tend to have a folk element in my music but not all of my influences have been folk musicians. Some of my favorite artists are: Bruce Cockburn; U2; Tracy Chapman; Don McClain: Neil Young; Dan Folgelburg; Larry Norman; John Michael Talbet; and styles: Folk; Folk Rock; Classic Rock; Southern Rock; Christian Rock; etc.
Favorite spot?
I'd definitely have to say Williamsburg, VA! My family & I love it here. However, I have to also mention my hometown of Binghamton, NY since my roots are there and most of my extended family still lives there.
Anything else...?
The song I am highlighting here has to do with the Jamestown, VA 400th Anniversary Celebration. It is a song I wrote over a year ago as I was considering how I, as a citizen of the Historic Triangle, could contribute to the event. In 2007 we will be celebrating the 400th anniversary of the first permanent English settlement in the United States, Jamestown, Virginia. It will be a huge, historical event and I want to offer my song as a theme song.
Also, I have a great family & want to thank them for their support - my wife & manager, Heather; and my 4 great kids - Josiah, Jorden, Julianna, and Jacob.
