Band History:
Nathan James is an actor and spoken word artist emerging from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is an acting teacher for the Pittsburgh CLO (Creative Vision) and past president of Kuntu Repertory Theater. Nathan is the Pittsburgh Poetry Slam Champion 2004 and ranked as one of the top 25 poets in the Nation by “Poetry Slam Incorporated”. By way of organizations such as Kuntu Repertory Theater, Pittsburgh Dance Ensemble, The BridgeSpotters Collective, Shona Sharif African Drum and Dance Ensemble, and City Theater, to name a few, You may find some of his most recent work published in the National Poetry Anthology 2004 and “Eternal Portraits” (The international Library of Poetry). Nathan has been the opening act for international Artists such as: Sean “Puffy” Combs (vote or die), Saul Williams, Marc Bamuthi Smith, and Dana Gilmore (all by way of HBO’s “Def Poetry Jam”). He has been a feature performer in many venues Nationally and internationally such as: “The international Word Festival (Grahamstown, South Africa), The Shadow Lounge (Pittsburgh Pa.), October Gallery (Philadelphia Pa.), Bohemian Caverns w/ The Hutch Simon Project (Washington D.C.); and colleges and Universities such as: Carnegie Mellon University, Point Park College, University of Pittsburgh, Chatham College and Slippery Rock University. Poetry has been a love of his since his early years of high school. It wasn’t until influence by the late Robert Penny, his mentor/professor at the Univ. of Pitt, that he decided to put his acting and writing talent together to create spoken word performance pieces that were entertaining but educational as well.
