DraMatiQue - Rapper

Why this name?
I chose this name because my former name " Daz " got taken and I had to come up with something else. So basically I brainstormed and everyone around me says I tend to be " over dramatic " so I came up with the name " dramatic ". Then I had to make it stand out so I gave it the funky French spelling but it's still pronounced " dramatic ".

Do you play live?
Yes I play live as much as possible and I definitely enjoy performing. I recently performed live with my best friend and rhyme partner, BenFlowz and we opened for Talib Kweli ( and we ripped it too ). I also performed in a showcase with MC Breed and Radar Zan from Wu Tang. We continually perform in various venues around our city in including big events like the Toledo Music Festival and Annual Car Shows. We have also done shows in NY, DC, and Detroit....and Cali very soon....
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet provides exposure to unsigned artists so we get our music heard. Its also a great way to network and collab and hear other artists that we normally would not be able to hear.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, as long as I have some sort of creative control. I am a very conceptual artist and I like to experiment artistically.
Band History:
Originally introduced to the hip-hop/rap genre in the early to mid nineteen eighties...DraMatiQue has been composing and performing songs since the age of fourteen. Initially just another teenage hobby, DraMatiQue ( then known as Def D ) hooked up with a neighbor who owned a beat machine with a microphone and recorded his very first demo ( low budget sound recording ) in 1989.

The following year...he teamed up with a childhood friend and recorded a series of demo
tapes until college enrollment led to an inevidable separation. Without solid production and creatively frustrated, he took an unexpected hiatus from recording music. But old habits die hard and three years later...Daz ( now called DraMatiQue) returned to the underground scene with a newfound determination and creatively rejuevenated. Subsequenly, he began occasionally freestyling live on air at the University of Toledo's campus radio station and recorded several unreleased demos.

Shortly thereafter in late 2000, DraMatiQue decided to establish his own independent musical family known as Trauma Unit Squadron...after encountering a young musical prodigy named BenFlowz. The twosome quickly became business partners, recruited another producer known as Rob Cypher, and a local deejay named DJ Divine, eventually disbanded from Trauma Unit, and established Newborn Recordz / DreamScheme Productions / Blaq Sun Entertainment. Hence,
the duo began performing shows in their hometown and across the country while performing with such acts respectable acts as Talib Kweli, Mc Breed and Raaddrr-Van of Wutang Clan.

Consequently, DraMatiQue has released several recording projects including a well received solo debut album in 2001 called " Will I Rize...", a smash follow up album " Fate ( What Liez Beneath ) " three years later, and 2006's ground breaking introspective release..."Life, Dreamz, & Destiny "...an ecclectic mix of underground hip-hop tracks blended with mainstream appeal that spawned such gems as " Whatz My Name ( U Ain't Know ) ", " Emotionz ", and the inspirational " Sunlight "...amongst others. He has also released several top-notch projects with BenFlowz ..." Abstrack Poeticz " ( 2003 ), " Utopian DreamQuest " (2004), " DB3-FlowMatiQue " (2007 ), and the upcoming double CD " The Soul Movement / Anti Gravity Rap ". Thus, continuing to enhance and develop his incredible talent as a gifted emcee, song writer, and recording artist.

After a brief hiatus, DraMatiQue releases his latest project...the astounding CD... " Passion Of Tha Mic ". Once again in collaboration with various hip-hop producers across the country as well as " in-house ", DraMatiQue releases an impressive musical masterpiece that undoubtedly appeals to his increasing fanbase as well as audiences abroad. His most marketable project thus far, this superbly constructed album soars to unbelievable new heights artistically by infusing radio friendly mainstream oriented cuts with a street-wise, cutting edge yet classic twist while simultenously showcasing a strong dedication and unwavering devotion to the hip-hop artform. Complimented by incredible lyracism, a formidable delivery, and mezmerising wordplay, " Passion Of Tha Mic " clearly shows that DraMatiQue is an emerging force to be reckoned with in the world of hip-hop music. Henceforth, enhancing his disposition in the forefront as one of the premier hip-hop artists in the midwest region as well as the entire music industry.

Your influences?
I grew up listening to old Motown records and alot of funk stuff ( like Gap Band ). I was introduced to hip-hop at a young age by my older brother ( R.I.P. ) and I was inspired to become an emcee by artists like Rakim, EPMD, GangStarr, MC Lyte, & LL Cool J.
Favorite spot?
The stage...because I love to perform live...it's like an adreneline rush and once I start I usually don't wanna stop.
Equipment used:
Pen & paper, CakeWalk Music Studio, Sound Forge 6.0, Cool Edit 2.5 , Acid Pro, Fruity Loops, Reasin, some keyboards, a drum machine, and a couple of REALLY GOOD microphones.
Anything else...?
