Welcome to Coelacanth (say SEE-lo-canth)'s Free Propaganda Page!
Why this name?
The Coelacanth (say SEE-lo-canth) is a species of archaic fish long thought to have been extinct. They are about the oddest-looking critters you can imagine. Coelacanth, the "band" wishes to take you on a journey of sound to places below the sea, deep down in the currents of emotion and wonder. There are a number of people who may believe that the creator behind Coelacanth has (1) gone off the deep end; or (2), gone extinct after a long hiatus from playing in bands and musical dabblings. They are only partially correct.
Do you play live?
I used to play live. Now I play with myself. No further comment necessary.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Hopefully it makes it easier for musicians to bring music to their fans, eliminating vast echelons of middle men and cost overhead.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Depends on the fine print. I'd have to talk it over with my lawyer (cough cough, snicker snicker).
Band History:
Coelacanth has thrown in the towel. Although the musican(s) behind Coelacanth may pursue other projects, Coelacanth was fun but it's time to move on.

A few select songs of the whole collection will be posted here. If you ask nicely, maybe Coelacanth will send you the CD "commemorative box set."
Your influences?
The Chills (heartfelt and lovely songs with fantastic Kiwi melodicism), Moby (does his own thing, extremely well), Magnetic Fields (wonderful blending of sounds by composer/producer Stephen Merritt), Orchards and Vines (check em out!), My Bloody Valentine (the geniuses of making illusions and new worlds out of sound), Red House Painters, Neil Young, Cocteau Twins (masters of signal processing), Love and Rockets, etc.
Equipment used:
Orion Platinum Software, Boss DR-5 (drum machine & crude sequencer), cheap MIDI-adaptable keyboard, Alesis quadraverb GT, Ibanez strat clone, Fostex FD4, Washburn accoustic guitar, Cheap Ibanez bass.
Anything else...?
Nobody knows who Coelacanth is. It is a secret. Let's keep it that way.
