Why this name?
we came up with the name because we were thinking of a word that would easily register to everyone’s mind and something which would easily identify and describe our roots. The word karrraba is a bikol word that means huge fire. The word illustrates our burning passion for the art of hiphop music delivered by our native tongues and humble equipments. Aside from that, it can easily relate to what bikolanos are known for- the fiery taste of the spice and aphrodisiac known as “sili or labuyo”.
Do you play live?
Yes we do, though not on a regular basis.
Where?
Aside from our own shower room, we rock the house by taking part in several underground hiphop joints especially those organized by the infamous rap unit of the P.I.’s 5th region – the B.R.O.
Any special moments?
The first time our song got a live broadcast on a local radio station and was interviewed live. That was one of our illest moments and to top it all the disc jockey read the mobile phone numbers of karrraba members on air and hundreds of texters came rushing through our units. Some wanting to get laid. Haha!

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
it caused an immense loss of profit to the industry’s businessmen and recording artists because ordinary people can exchange songs and purchase songs without the royalties going to the right people. On the other hand, The mp3 is one of the most significant innovations in the industry because it opened its way to a generation of a free-trade music. It allows artists to exchange their views, inspire, to criticize and get criticized. Now this is a challenge to the industry to develop a program that would filter out the pirates from the legitimate sharers, without hurting the artists’ access to free expression and the businessmen’s pocket.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Nothing is wrong with that as long as the label doesn’t dictate us of what to become of our songs and image like forcing us to wear f4 hairdos and do a collaboration with self proclaimed rap prince Agassi. Haha!
Band History:
During the later part of 90’s stakkkato and pukkka was hooked up to the sound of various old school hiphop acts. They listened to local artists such as death threat, francism, denmark, andrew e, rapasia, sun valley crew, and out of the scant money in their pockets they were able to get copies of casette tapes of 2pac, notorious B.I.G., Bone thugs n harmony, the roots, and jay-z (hova!). inspired by the groove and eloquence of hiphop they tried to create their own music. They wrote rhymes and recorded their songs over a looped homemade recorded drumbeats sprinkled with melodic tunes of their younger cousin’s synthesizer.
On the year 2002, the duo performed on a college party and was applauded by the overwhelmed audience and among them was the eager wakkko. He was invited to record a freestyle track which the duo was reconstructing and the sound came out good. From that point, the trio named theirselves as..tantanananannn!....Karrraba.
