Welcome to the music of Galen Clavio - a hybrid of acoustic rock, folk, electric noodling, synthesizers, and whatever else strikes my fancy at the time of recording.
Why this name?
Galen's first album, 'Original Sins' (2001), was recorded under a cooperative known as "The Ducks", consisting of several other members who have since left to pursue other interests. Galen decided to use his own name in his future recording pursuits.
Do you play live?
I've been playing live on and off (mostly off)for seven years or so. Haven't had any really special moments as of yet, but I'm sure they're just around the corner.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it's a good thing, so long as the major labels are minimally involved. The advances in sound quality and ability to collaborate over vast distances make it worth whatever problems might crop up.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Any record company that signed me would know beforehand that my music wasn't overly poppy and recycled, that my instrumental abilities fall short of "virtuosity", and that I'm not exactly boy-band cute. So if a major label wants to sign me while still knowing all the above, then by all means let them.
Band History:
Started playing at age 14. Started writing songs shortly after, although about 90% of them sucked. Didn't get into serious home recording until I was 21. I've put together five "albums" since 2001. Most of the early stuff is demo-quality only.
Your influences?
Obvious influences on my music include Neil Young, the Rolling Stones, Wilco, The Beatles, Joao Gilberto, Caetano Veloso, The Black Crowes, and Steely Dan. I really love a mix of everything, and my own personal listening includes far more bands and artists than that.
Favorite spot?
Depends on the time of year.
