The Riverband are Dave Rich and Pete Langford.

New Riverband album released!

10 years ago I used to gig with Pete Langford and we worked on some songs together which we recorded on an old 4-track tape recorder - indeed some of the first songs I ever wrote, and certainly the first recordings that I was ever on. Now we've got back together and re-recorded these old songs after discovering the old Riverband tape (an interesting experience - a mixture of horror and intrigue ;) ).

The result is an excellent album entitled 'No Turning Back' with very strong songs and a great variety of moods. It's quite spooky listening to these tracks and remembering that they convey a very different time in mine and petes life. I hope you'll enjoy the music as much as we enjoy listening back to this stuff.

It's wonderful that we've been able to do this as Pete is now moving down to Falmouth to start a new job - it's a great note for the Riverband to part on - maybe til the next time we re-discover this old cd. . . .

The cd also features saxaphone from Harry Fulcher from the Limbic system and Dazy on penny whistle and Andreas Matthews on bass. If you'd like a copy then email me and give me your details or click on the button below to pay with paypal. The cd is £8 and P&P in the uk is £1.50. The CD has 13tracks and a runtime of 65minutes.

Why this name?
The Riverband was basically because we were formed on the banks of the River Tamar. The strong musical community there which inspired and focused our music was very important to us and the name carries that heritage.
Do you play live?
YES! - we absolutely play live and love it. From the many Jam sessions that happen around the Tamar Valley and neighouring Tavistock to gigs in the local pubs/clubs and the odd festival.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Now with the advent of I-tunes and other legitimate mp3 download sites I think the future of the music industry is now safeguarded.

It's still hard to get people to pay for your offerrings, although once they see you live the mental connection between *music* and *beings who need to earn a living* seems to be reinforced :)
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
only if they offerred us M&Ms with all the blue ones taken out.

Oh and a pet Ghecko.
Your influences?
hmm ok, Listening to the album you can certainly hear influences like Sting, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, Genesis, Tracy Chapman - and other great rock/folk artists.
