I am a British accordionist. I write and perform vocal and instrumental pop music using only my accordion. No other instruments. Other instruments are bad. Accordions are good. Mmm, accordions.
Do you play live?
I am in a band called Scarlet's Well and we gig frequently in the UK and abroad. I also appear regularly on the London live comedy circuit performing accordion versions of pop hits.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It democratises the process of reaching an audience. At the same time, it dilutes the pool of content. So perhaps we're all back where we started.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes please.
Your influences?
My accordion heroes include Yann Tiersen, The Tiger Lillies, Benjamin Ickies and Astor Piazzolla. Other influences come from the great Russian classical composers like Prokofiev and Shostakovich, the wonderful Kurt Weill, and from the film music of Bernard Herrmann and Danny Elfman.
Equipment used:
I play a 72-bass piano accordion made by a Czech company called Delicia. It's by no means the finest accordion in the world but it works for me.
