The Smoke Wagon Blues Band has been Described as Progressive Blues and Blues Roots explosion by their Canadian fan base. In the Tradition of Canadian greats such as King Biscuit Boy, Mckenna Mendelson Mainline, & The Down Child Blues Band this band has it all and hopes to continue the tradition by producing great Canadian blues classics that will last a life time.
Why this name?
The name Smoke Wagon can mean a whole lot of diffrent things but we use it to describe what people may have thought the first time they saw a large smoking Steam Train barreling down the tracks.
Do you play live?
Playing live is what the blues is all about! which is why we try to record live in the studio as well. The Blues is all about feeling and the best and only time to experiance that righeous feeling is at a live venue. We mostly play club dates and festivals around southern Ontario. Our most special moment came last Summer playing in front of 50,000 people!! as the openning blues act for the one and only Ronnie Hawkins. Being a huge fan of Ronnie Hawkins and all his alumni it was a dream come true to say the least.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I certainly think it has! And at the Moment with so much bubble gum rock on the air waves it's the only place left where you can hear talented song writers and performers. We all long for the day when Radio can return to the days of old where they could make or brake a band. But with that not looking good in the near future the internet is our only true talented source.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
In a heart beat!
Band History:
For band history please have a look at our home site www.smokewagonbluesband.com
Your influences?
When listening to the Smoke Wagon Blues Band you'll hear a whole range of Canadian past blues ghosts as well New Orleans soul, good time boogie, a side dish of funk and some folk revival for good measure. Great examples would be Mainline, The Band, Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker, ZZ Top, King Biscuit Boy, Butterfield Blues Band etc....
Favorite spot?
Well now that's just not fair theres so many great blues city's way too many to pick just one and the blues is nation wide. Of cource we love New Orleans the city that really never sleeps. And Chicago for it's traditional electric sounds
and Austin for it's hard driving blues but we'd have to put a good word in for the home front and say getting low down in Hamilton Ontario's Hess village is just the cool of cool!
Equipment used:
If the sounds are being made by a computer we want no part of it! There's nothing more honest then a working class traditional blues band!
DJ's, Karaokee, and dance clubs are ruining live music forever it's our job to keep real live talented music on the map!!!
Anything else...?
Don't Forget to Boogie

Keep your stick on the ice!
