Hmmm... An ever-changing myriad of styles ranging from the sublime to the bleeding obvious. World changing lyrics such as "take me down to the chip shop, I want to buy some shoes" are the order of the day. Very serious about not being all together serious?
Bubblegum is a word often used by the band, for any reason at all. Just a nice word to say isn't it? Bubblegum. Go on, you say it. Bubblegum.
Why this name?
When the band was a duo we were going to be called Pablo & the Moog. Then me and Ants sat down and had a think. I was reading Dance of the Voodoo Handbag at the time so I wanted something Voodoo related so Ants suggested Johnny Wishbone.
Starfish was a buzz word at the time.
Do you play live?
The highlight has been opening a concert for BBC music live week, in our home town of Llanelli, without falling of the stage or starting any fires or anything. Well, no big fires at least. The local press stated after the concert that the band have a "great name". I kept the press cutting.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It lets us get promoted all over the shop without having to do more than record one half-arsed demo. It's a start.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Big in Japan would be nice as the song goes.
Band History:
Started as a duo Autumn 1999 and has fluctuated between 1 and 6 members since.
Your influences?
We live life as if we were all drummers. Ringo Starr, Keith Moon etc.
Musicaly however we like to think of our lyrics as fairly unique. The music isn't as unique as we'd like but we're working on it.
Favorite spot?
I'd like to say the bar of the Masons Arms, Llanelli but I used have this doorway in Birmingham where I would enjoy just standing for hours on end. The rest of the band would probably say the bar of the Masons Arms. Apart from Ants, he's usualy in the lounge.
Equipment used:
Nothing flash just yet. Oh, we have got a blue fish-shaped tambourine.
Anything else...?
Well know for the song, "the fish song", which is played whenever two or more Welshmen are drunk/stoned near an acoustic guitar.
Johnny Wishbone & the Voodoo Starfish are the future of music or possibly the past but definitely not the present. It's all to do with beta particles or something, I wasn't really concentrating, sorry. Anyways, enjoy!
