Band? What band :)
I've been interested in music ever since I can remember. When I was a kid it was hard to fall asleep without having the radio or some form of music playing in the background. I listen to anything that makes a sound. I have no barriers in music. I guess that's why my music has come out a lil on the weird side. Right now it just consists of me :) I do all the music. The instrument playing, sequencing, programming, etc. It's hard work but I would go crazy if I went one day without making any music.
Why this name?
Well, it's pretty self-explanatory. Most of my music earlier in the days used to be monotonous and mono, lo-fi and minimal. So that's how I got it! No big secret really, plus I thought it was catchy.
Do you play live?
That would be a nice thing, but taking into account that I am doing this by myself, it would be pretty hard to play guitars/bass/synths/drums at the same time. I've had fun playing at clubs and pubs before but it wasn't anything big. It was one of those "jam-with-the-band" thing. I do remember playing at my school ball in Australia, I really loved it, but the pyrotechnic guy nearly burnt my eyebrows off when he let the fireworks go while I was doing a solo.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it exposes your music to an even wider audience. It is both a great tool but it can also be the other way around. Then again, you will know if you're a good artist when people wanna rip your music. It's a compliment really. With the internet your music gets more exposure to places you've never even heard of. You might get new fans in the weirdest or most unexpected of places. I think it will be good for the music industry, so it continues to develop and give the audience what it wants in a more conventional way.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I suppose it would be stupid not to...I mean, why not? Opportunity is a great thing.
Your influences?
As I mentioned before I do not have any barriers in music. I guess it's hard for most people to be able to appreciate all the genres of music there is out there, but for me I get a kick out of it. I have no favourites! I like them all! Being able to listen to a broad range of music gives you flexibility when your doing your own music, especially when it comes to making fresh sounds or molding genres together. It really lends to the creativity. This is the primary reason why I've labelled myself as "experimental", as I don't really follow a definite style. It is an ever-changing thing.
Favorite spot?
I like Boston, Dallas, Singapore, Perth, Kuala Lumpur and of course my home city Kota Kinabalu. I prefer quiet isolated places nowadays.
Equipment used:
I had a quadrasynth and a roland d-20 and an hr-16 drum machine [that is dead]. I have 3 guitars at the moment (Ibanez prestige, Les Paul Epiphone copy, and a Fender Richie Sambora custom). I also have a Fender jazz bass, as well as a few sound generators for my synths, a few hardware gear (such as my alesis mixer and aphex compressors), I have an old pair of fostex t-7 and behringer hps3000 headphones, gfx 707, pod xt, metal zone 2, wah wah pedal, octave pedal, akg condensor mics. For software I use Nuendo, Reason, Adobe Audition 2 mostly, with the ocassional Modplug, Buzz, Psycle, Cubase, Melodyne, Recycle, Vocaloid, Harbal, and a variety of vsti's and vst's.
Anything else...?
Music is one of those essential things required for life, just like breathing. Without it, life would be so bland, so monotonous, so plain and tasteless.
