Ethereal Woods is an atmospheric black metal band from Warwickshire. We value quality of music and expression over brutality and convention. Our work is released through Supernal Music and is available from their website: www.supernalmusic.com.
Why this name?
The name, Ethereal Woods, was chosen using an unusual method. I had a few ideas and asked my friends which one they liked best.
Do you play live?
Ethereal Woods have never played live because we only have two members but our former band, Excarnation, have enjoyed a number of successful live performances.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet is a great way for small bands to promote themselves but it also breeds breach of copyright. Overall I think it is a positive force because if someone likes a band enough they will buy their CD rather than downloading it.
Band History:
Biography:Ethereal Woods emerged in 2002 as the solo project of Mark Britton, the main composer behind what was once one of the most grotesquely underground bands in the UK - EXCARNATION. The debut album Thickthorn was recorded in the Summer of 2004 and had it not been for Supernal Music’s advert for demo submissions in their August catalogue it would probably never have seen the light of day. The album is inspired by the magical atmospheres of Thickthorn Wood in Mark Britton’s home town of Kenilworth and has a distinctly archaic feel being compared to the likes of BURZUM and early GEHENA. The second album, In the Forest of Arden’, is currently being written and rehearsed with drummer Adam Yarnall and should be ready for release in Autumn 2005.
