"The guitar is my church, music is spirituality"
Why this name?
Born with it.
Do you play live?
Yes, Around the mid-Michigan area, into Ohio and beyond.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It brings the power of distribution to the musicians directly. It gives me the ability to be heard by people who otherwise would not know who I am. Hopefully, great things will come of this.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, if the deal was fair, and if I could retain my publishing rights. I am already signed to Jib Machine Records, an indie label in the Cleveland, Ohio area. I will have a new release through them in spring 2008. Look for it............
Band History:
The Pat Zelenka Project
Pat Zelenka: Guitar and Vocals
Steve Chapko: Drums and Vocals
Del Elroy: Bass and Vocals
Based in Lansing Michigan - An Artist On Jib Machine Records in Cleveland Ohio
I formed The Pat Zelenka Project during the summer of 2006 to both complete my then "in progress" CD Sonic Experiments (released 09/16/06), and to enable me to perform the new tunes via live shows.
I've performed in and led many groups during the past 10 years, with gigs and recording being a constant staple for each band. After many let downs musically in each of these bands, and after the release of my final "full band" CD Radiosoul, and it's great acceptance on internet radio stations, I decided to go the solo route, and later, to front my own band.
My first solo outing, Lo Fi Happiness, was released in March 2006, and was featured on local Lansing TV, as well as currently being played on over 30 internet radio stations. Steady digital sales on such sites as I Tunes, Rhapsody, and Napster have also helped to spread the word.
The release of Lo Fi Happiness led to a contract with the label Illegible Records, and the release in September 2006 of Sonic Experiments. At this time, I formed a trio featuring Roger Cannerile on drums, myself on guitar and vocals, and a local bassist, to help to both finish the CD, and to gig to support it.
In November of 2006, this line up traveled to Cleveland Ohio and the Phantasy Club to participate in the release party for the Jib Machine Records compilation CD Demons & Angels on which was featured a song from Lo Fi Happiness titled "Awakening". It was after this performance in front of the heads of the Jib Machine organization that I began to talk to Jib Machine label head John Templeman about an eventual contract with Jib Machine, which I signed with that company in January 2007.
Currently, The Pat Zelenka Project features Del Elroy on Bass and Vocals and Steve Chapko on Drums and Vocals. Del Elroy has changed the sound, and matured it. He is a precise and intelligent player, and a very melodic bassist.
Steve Chapko is the drummer that can be heard on drums and lead vocals on the Radiosoul CD, and brings a more progressive edge to the sound of the band, and with some very powerful vocals. Steve and Del are also great writers, and bring great arrangements and ideas to the songs.
The band continues to rehearse and perform, and is also preparing tracks for an upcoming studio album for Jib Machine Records, slated for early 2008 release. With performances scheduled throughout the Midwest into the new year, the future is looking bright for this potent trio.
