The Kinman Experience
NEWS   After all these recording were done, I decided that my favorite pickups, for my style of playing/music, were(drum roll plz) The Kinman Custom 60 neck and the Kinman Broadcaster 48 bridge.

The 60 neck pick up had more lows and less mids than the 48 neck and that gave it a better Jazz tone which is what I was looking for.

I preferred 48 bridge pick up to the 60 bridge pick up because to my ears, the 60 had a little too much treble for my taste than the 48.

All of this is just my opinion based on the styles I like/play.

Please listen to the tracks hopefully it will help you make your own better informed decisions.

I ended up with my #1 Tele (The 2005 Ash body/ maple neck) getting the Custom 60 Neck pick up installed into it and keeping the Broadcaster 48 bridge pickup installed the Bridge position.

This page is devoted to my experimental sound experience with the electronic(a) device known as the Kinman Pickup. None of these tracks will be left in the charts, they are here for reference only.
Band History:
You can visit my real soundclick site at http://www.soundclick.com/bands/0/brettallengregory.htm The guitar parts used in these "Kinman Experience" clips are from older songs of mine. I may eventually post those full songs here as well.
Equipment used:
Three Guitars were used.

The first was a 2004 made in china Affinity Squier Fender Telecaster with stock pickups.

The Second was a 2001 Alder body Maple neck Fender American Standard Nashville Telecaster with B-Bender that was loaded with Kinman Custom 60's.

The Third Guitar was a 2005 Fender American Standard Telecaster with Ash body and Maple neck that was first recorded with it's stock "Delta Tone" Fender-factory pickups and then reloaded with Kinman Broadcaster 48's and recorded again.

After these recordings I made my judgements on which pick ups I gravitated towards. To see what my opinion was, click on the NEWS ;link above and to the right on your screen. But I would suggest listening to the clips first!
Anything else...?
I was very interested in the sound of the Telecaster pickup, especially the noiseless variety. I became hooked on Kinman Pickups and wanted to be able to compare the difference especially between Stock Fender Pickups and the two varieties offered by Kinman (The '48 Broadcaster and the '60 Custom series). So I recorded different snippets of my own songs played through the different pickups I have and also through the different amps I have. The results are in the music page.

At the beginning of each recording you can hear me strumming or clicking the muted strings. I clicked once to signify the Neck pickup, twice for the inbetween setting and three clicks for the bridge pick up. So for instance at the beginning of the track for "Broadcaster 48 Neck thru DRRI" you would hear one click (signifies neck pick up) then after that I move the guitar all around tring to get it to make some 60 cycle hum noise, when done with the noise check I click again and begin the sound snippets.

Some files at the end of the song list are direct to the board so you can down load them and play them thru your amp and see what it would sound like on your settings.

The files that were routed through my Pro Junior or 65 Deluxe Reverb RI mic'ed were with an AKG 414. The tone and Vol on each guitar was all the way up and the amps were set to Vol 4. The Pro Junior tone was set to 5 and the DRRI tone was set to Treble 4, Bass 6, no reverb or vibrato but signal was input through the Vibrato channel on the #2 input.

edit Jan 2006: For further clarification regarding the recordings, I only made 4 recordings, one for each guitar on all pick up settings (see Equipment above) direct to the board, a Fostex VF160 through an ART Tube Pre Amp. Those recordings were then run out to the amps and recorded with an AKG 414, that way the same clips were run through both amps for comparison. I then cut the clips using my computer and arranged them by type of pick up and amp used. No computer normalization, eq or compression was used at all. The four full files are listed at the bottom, these are the direct to board files before they hit the amps. You can download these full files and play them thru your amp to get a good idea of what they might sound like through your amp. My apologies about the quality of my playing for these clips, I wasn't going for pristene, absolute perfection, show-off, no mistakes kinda stuff, I just wanted a good sampling of my playing styles so I could listen and compare what tone I liked best.
