Akheron was conceptualized in the year 1999 in electronic music and music theory classes. All work was halted in 2001, but resumed in 2003.
Work continues on a debut release of material combining industrial synths and percussion, noise, and ambient soundscapes with symphonic and orchestral instruments.

Why this name?
Akheron is the transliteration of the Greek word for the river of suffering in ancient Greek mythology. It is derived from the words Akhe Rhein, meaning "flowing in misery and pain."
Do you play live?
Akheron hasn't the equipment or personnel to do so.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Ideally, it will make more diverse and independant music more widely available. This proliferation would, in turn, make artists strive towards originality and uniqueness in order to warrant attention. The bloated major labels would realize that they can't suppress this new technology. They would have to learn to swim, rather than trying to push legislature so that they don't have to bother to put any thought into the future.
However, as long as the masses are vacuous idiots who will buy whatever the media tells them to like, nothing much will likely change.

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Like many artists of similar styles, Akheron is not striving specifically for a major contract, nor are major labels looking to sign such artists. Akheron wouldn't enter a contract that would hamper creativity, or set any kind of schedule for releases. As Akheron does not play live or require very much commercial studio time, interest in labels is primarily for distribution and promotion.
Band History:
1999: An instrumental song was written during lectures in electronic music and music theory classes. This planted the seed that turned into an ongoing project, and more material was written during subsequent lectures.
2001: All work stopped due to hardware failure, and certain obligations.
2003: New hardware and software were obtained, and work resumed. Material had to be reworked and refined as the new software was learned, thus work on a debut release was a slow process.

Your influences?
Akheron started out influenced by the works of the prequisite classical/romantic composers (especially Mussorgsky and Schubert) and more modern film composers such as Elliot Goldenthal, Hans Zimmer, and Klaus Badelt. It began to creep into more industrial and dark ambient territory, influenced by the likes of Wumpscut, Lustmord, the sample work of Jim Thirlwell, and many of the Cold Meat Industry artists, such as In Slaughter Natives, raison d'ĂȘtre, and Sophia.
