Lackawanna Rail has a unique sound blending Rock, Jazz, Bluegrass, Folk, and Blues. You never quite know what to expect from them next. But whatever you call what you hear, you will like it.
The band has a good time together on stage and it shows. You can't miss the way that they relate to each other. The songs that they sing are sometimes origional and sometimes covers. But they are always well picked. You will find yourself singing along.

Why this name?
It's a statement of our motivation. "Lack o' Wanna. :) Actually, Ed is a model railroader, Mike is a Hobo, and Karen .... well, Karen is Karen! It just sort of fit us.
Do you play live?
The band has been together for 12 years and we have played out many times under many names over the years. Being on stage is great for us. Our music comes together in a very cool way when we are playing live.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet has opened doors for so many people to get their music heard. It makes the process of finding gigs, selling CDs and communicating with fans much easier. Gives us more time to concentrate on making good music!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Probably not. We've just started our own record label and would like to work that way a little bit. We've really lost faith in the "Star Maker Machinery" and it would have to be something pretty spectacular to get us out of what we are doing now.
Band History:
It was 1992 when Mike's daughter, Colleen came home from school with news that her music teacher was giving their phone number to a friend. The Meades were new to the area. Colleen had mentioned the family love of Bluegrass Music and her music teacher knew someone that wanted to play bluegrass. A few days later, Ed called and Mike made arrangements to visit on a Sunday afternoon. Mike, Ed, and his wife Karen played a dozen songs or so and decided that it could work out well.
It wasn't long before Mike, Ed and Karen were combining their musical talents in several directions. They played bluegrass together as a band called Cedar Creek. They worked as a backup band for Danny Fozio as Mr. Fifties and the Yakety Yak Band. They also worked playing rock and roll in a band called Delimma.
During those 12 years, they developed a special chemistry between them as musicians. They worked to develop a special sound of their own. In 2004 they decided to bring the new sound out to the public and started making plans. In 2005 they will release their CD and start working to promote it.

Your influences?
We were all strongly influenced by the Beatles and Rolling Stones. There was also Peter, Paul and Mary, Sonny and Cher, and the Everley Brothers. But also some Beach Boys, Led Zep, Mountain, Black Sabbath, all those old groups, but we aren't spring chickens either! As we got older we started listening to many other styles including Bluegrass and Folk.
Favorite spot?
That one's easy.... Home.
Equipment used:
There are only three of us, but we play a lot of instruments. Banjo, Mandolin, Guitars, Drums, Autoharp, Hammered Dulcimer, Lap Dulcimer, Dobro, Bass, Keyboards. Lots of different sounds.
Anything else...?
The lyrics to the origional songs show how much heart that the band has. We've been together now for about 12 years. The chemistry between us is fantastic.
