Why this name?
Sometimes the simplest solution is the best one.
Do you play live?
I play whenever I get the chance. I did a concert series in 2004, culminating in an opening day concert for the Ocean Grove, NJ Camp Meeting Week. I had 14 musicians and we had a blast.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
There is an opportunity for musicians to reach a much larger audience than ever before. Simply posting my Christmas cantata, "The Holy Child" on a website has allowed it to be performed 30 times (that I know of) in 10 different countries over the last 6 years. The funny thing is, even with the larger audience, the need to create demand for your music and to stand out from all the other artists has not changed, and may have been made more difficult by the larger size of the stage and the greater competition for the listener's time.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Again? I had a contract with a major record label just after I graduated from Berklee. When the deal fell through, I was heartbroken. Would I do it again? Absolutely!
Band History:
A Composer and Lyricist with a degree in composition from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts and a Christian for the last 25 years, I enjoy writing and singing contemporary Christian and praise and worship music. I am also passionate about big band music whether writing, arranging, or playing trombone. I am the Music Director at Hope Presbyterian Church in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, directing a praise team, a vocal choir, a handbell choir, a men's quartet, a mixed quartet, and a handbell quartet.
I began writing contemporary Christian music shortly after becoming a Christian and have been writing and performing it ever since.
Your influences?
I have very eclectic tastes in music but the people I listen to the most are Beethoven, Stravinsky, Oscar Peterson, Chic Corea, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Sandi Patti, First Call, and Larnelle Harris
Favorite spot?
Boston! I lived there for 6 years and it is a great city. Were it not for the nasty winters there, I probably never would have left.
Equipment used:
All music was written and recorded using Noteworthy Composer. My Guillemot sound card was rendered partially inoperative after upgrading to Windows XP (Guillemot Maxisound users are stuck with Win 95 or 98 because the company refuses to write new drivers) so audio recording on the more recent pieces was done on a Fostex MR8. I use Synthfont to render midi into wav files and just recently installed an M-Audio 1010 LT card, so future recordings will be made on that.
Anything else...?
During the late 70's I received 3 honorable mentions in the American Song Festival. In 2000 I was honored with 2 excellences in songwriting awards from the Great American Song Contest.
