Long Since Dark
NEWS   SUMMER 2008 UPDATE!

We have currently just finished remixing our second album "Departure". We originally released this album in 2004 and were never happy with the production. We have remixed the entire album and plan to re-record vocals for it in the next week or two. We plan to release "Departure" in its new remixed and remastered form in early September. We have worked long and hard to make what once sounded like a rough demo sound polished and amazing. The songs really have a new life. We have also remastered our debut album "Long Since Dark" as well and it is was released this Spring. After all this we plan to finish work on an EP of new music to be released in 2008 sometime.

Long Since Dark is a band of many faces. This band was created to combine the elements of Doom and Gothic metal with those of more popular metal bands of the time. The purpose of Long Since Dark is to blend underground elements in with the mainstream to create something emotional and real. Melody is the key and emotion is the driving force of this band. Long Since Dark choose to go beyond the traditional doom metal sound and add elements of many other forms of music to create something original and inspiring. The purpose of the band is to create emotion and to tell stories using music as well as words. Our intention is to not only make you enjoy the song but to take you within the song as if you were there. We are not afraid to try and recreate the genre that was set in stone years ago by the likes of My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost and bring back the original feelings that made it so great. We aspire to create masterpieces that will live up to albums like "Turn Loose The Swans" and "Icon". That is what sets us apart from many is the fact that we are not afraid to write as we please and to create the music we want. We have no restrictions and no guidelines. Our influences are many and you will hear them all. We feel variety is what keeps listeners interested.
Why this name?
I am a huge fan of the bands Nevermore and Sanctuary. I originally heard the phrase in a Nevermore song and then later discovered it was an old Sanctuary song (band before Nevermore). It has meaning as far as my life goes. There were many dark times in my life but I have gotten past them all.
Do you play live?
At the moment no, but I would love to in the future. If we get signed and some promotional support I can see us playing some live shows for sure. It really all depends on the response and support from the fans, zines, and labels.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
We think mp3 has been a positive thing for the music industry. Like a lot of things it has it's good and bad. Anything that is abused becomes bad and mp3s are abused. We believe a lot of bands would never be heard without mp3, especially by people all over the world. We just think a few people out there are ruining it for the rest of us. We just want to be heard by as many people as possible and the mp3 makes that possible.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It depends... If I could keep our integrity and freedom as is then it would be great. We would also like to have worldwide distribution. These things can be accomplished by underground labels though, it would be a tough choice.
Band History:
Long Since Dark was formed from the ashes of Soul Inquisition. Founding and sole member Mark Rapture grew tired of Black and Death metal and wanted to expand. Feeling that he did all he could with Soul Inquisition he disbanded it after the acclaimed "In Darkness They Hunt" release. Work on this new band began shortly after the release of the final Soul Inquisition album. The band was to blend elements of underground doom and gothic bands with some of the more mainstream rock acts. The goal was to create something powerful, emotional, melodic, and spiritual. After two years of writing and 6 months of recording the self titled release is complete. To quote Mark, "I have always wanted to create an epic doom album like many of my old favorite bands. I always wanted to do this with Soul Inquisition but I always felt limited to Black and Death Metal. As the writing came along for this album is grew to be an epic doom album, yet still contains a few of the more mainstream elements I wanted. This of course is no mainstream record by all means. There are plenty of heavy riffs. I also decided that a limited "death vocals" approach would be the way to go. So I now sing in this band and will probably keep any growling to a minimum. The writing for the new album "Departure" has begun. I won't say exactly how the next album will sound but it won't be as aggressive. It will be more emotional and more melodic I hope. It will be evolved. The true sound of Long Since Dark has yet to come and the next album will see that.
