Band/artist history
SanGia consists of sisters Genia (17) and Sandra (19) From Guelph, Ontario Canada. The duo's Folk- Rock-Hip-Hop-flavored Caribbean-style repertoire is written and produced by their father (Howard) Sandra, Genia and other collaboration such as Dan Hill, Dave Martin and John Capek. In 2000, SanGia became the first unsigned act to perform at the Juno Awards. This remarkable achievement coincided with the duo receiving interest from five major labels, and making it to the semifinals for a Youth Television (YTV) Achievement Award that honors achievements and talents of Canadians. In Oct. 1999, British-based Peace Child International selected Sandra and Genia to attend the Millennium Young People's Congress in Hawaii Along with 1,000 other international delegates. During the event, televised internationally by the Millennium Television Network, the two performed their award-winning song “Where Has It Gone.” Following this, the duo was a finalist in the Walt Disney Millennium Dreamers Contest and was awarded a trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida along with 2,000 other international winners. Genia and Sandra are both black belts in karate, and have won many trophies at competitions. Genia is also a grade 8 student of Suzuki School for violin, which she has been playing since the age of 4, and is now studying Conservatory with her Professor. SanGia’s goal now is to hit the grass root trails of small radios and campus stations.
