Music
11-02-09 This song was written (in demo form) by Albert Forssell. I produced it, I used his bass and guitar riff but did the rest of the instrumentation myself. More of your typical Tones style pop/rock with a dance feel.
Sept 2009: An attempt to throw song energetic punkishness into my songs, written and recorded fast, rough edges galore.
7-11-09 A quickly produced rocker, all guitars. Written & performed by me. Not really about anything, I got some good phrases from a book and wrapped something around them
May 2009 - A new tune from The Tones. Played everything myself on this one, sang it out and didn't double the vocals for once.
04-10-09 Dave Criddle on bass (funky bass at that) a little guitar and backing vocals. Everything else by me. One or two people out there know what this is about.
3-14-09 A fantastically fun collaboration with Nick Abraham for Australia. Nick laid the track out and did all the guitars, I did everything else. Dave Criddle also appears on bass
Feb 2009 - A song done by Dave Criddle and I (super group = The Tiddlers). I wrote the original song and had the idea and sang my part. Dave did all the music and mixing etc.
02-17-09 After laboring for months and abandoning / working on, so many songs I just wrote and recorded this one in about 3 hours (I think that's the magic key). Features Zoetrope on the S3 synth organ during the chorus.
12-03-08 On a Killers kick and trying to make a similar song, of course it just ends up sounding like me.
Nov 14th 2008 - A new one, I think this one is pretty good, based around an Interpol riff but changed a lot :) Much more the style of music I prefer to be making
10-04-08 A different tune for me. I spent a lot more time creating coherent lyrics. I've always wanted to do a ballad but never had the musical chops for the musical parts. Enter Dave Chick, he's playing the piano from a tune I wrote.
08-17-08 Wrote this song quickly and had very clear ideas of what I wanted it to sound like. I had no belief I could get it there. I was aiming for Pulp and ended up somewhere nearer a hetrosexual Pet Shop Boys
08-10-08 Working on a lot of ideas these days but not many of them come to fruition. Another song here that is what it is.
07-07-08 A bit of experimentation here. My first time ever with 7th and 9th chords, tried to create some mystery with the lyrics. As usual just sounds like me
6-21-08 Trying to both 'make a noise' and be more wordy. Not my best but I'm happy with it all the same and I think that's the point.
5/25/08: Another attempt at a ballad. Described as good enough but not my best :)
May 11th 2008. First recorded song, 3rd or 4th in the set from my set of songs based on Ken Grimwood's Replay. Future Inc is the story of the company our hero sets up to become rich.
04-11-08 I'm pretty happy with this one. Written from a melody first which is rare for me. Lots of guitars and too much production but 'tis what it 'tis.
03-08-08 Wanted to do something based around a guitar figure but I'm not that good at thinking them up. Mostly made the vocals up as I went though I recorded them a few times to get them as best as I could.
02-08-2008 This is a version of the John Tully (aka Cracks) song he recently wrote. His is a great and moody acoustic piece. I wanted to rock it up after my acoustic break. This supergroup features Dave Criddle on bass.
Check out the Tully vers
02-24-08 The last one, so I did it. Not a bad song, I was short of ideas for the 10th tune but it turned out OK I think.
02-21-08 RPM #8. Always trying to add some variation. A random hodge podge of words and melodies and tempo's all mixed into one song
2-20-08 RPM acoustic song #8 I reached a point where I was not sure I could pull of 10 songs but I think I'll do it now. This song turned out just like intended which is surprisingly rare for me. Don't be fooled by the false start :)
2-17-08 Song #7 in Feb 2008. Perhaps a little more disjointed. Recorded a lot then chopped it around in Acid to fix it up.
2-11-08 RPM song #6. Needed to break my 2 day slump. A little rough perhaps but captures the moment
02-08-08 5th song for the RPM challenge. Trying to do something different than the last four. Don't be misled by the rowdy title, this is slow lyrics driven song.
02-07-08 The nearest thing you might ever hear to a protest song from me. Perhaps not as strong as 1-3
02-06-08 RPM #3, 3rd song in my acoustic 'set'
2-5-08 Second song for the RPM Challenge. Based around the recent Sci Fi Movie - Sunshine
2-4-08 My first acoustic song for the RPM Challenge
1-26-2008 Perhaps more like the kind of music I'd like to make if I really knew what I was doing. Lots of guitar noise, based around a song by the Band of Horses though it sounds nothing like them
1-20-08 Another slice of MOR Rock/Pop. Vocals are shakey at the end but I kind of ran out of steam but still think the song is good enough to post
12-12-07 A fairly straight forward rock song, even for me. Started as a slower acoustic song but ended up as this
11-29-07 Once again trying something different and once again ending up sounding much like I always do. Inspired by the Dandy Warhols I would say.
11-12-07 Trying to do something a little different, especially with the lyrics. I like it and I hope you do.
10-13-07 Finished a couple of months ago but I was never happy with the lyrics or singing. I rerecorded them this week. Only 1 guitar, 1 bass, 1 synth track on this one.
10-07-2007 Another song. First time recording live acoustic guitar, trying to sing like Jarvis again.
9-14-07 Longer than my usual stuff. One where I decided enough was enough so it contains a few flaws but I like it :)
8-12-07 The result of a 7 day effort to record something. Pop rock, attempted hook, written and played by me. Tambourine included
5-30-07 A bit more experimental. Enjoyed making it.
4-15-07 Written and recorded quickly as an attempt to get myself out of a slump. Just pop, that's all it is
3-14-07 Started out trying to be the Artic Monkey's but ends up somewhere else. All written played etc. by myself
02-12-07 As always trying to do something different. Not really sure how to classify this. Inspired by a combination of Happy Jack, Rocky Racccoon and Mmm by Crash Test Dummies
2-9-07 A fable about the seedy Spanish town of Lloret De Mar. Simplistic vocals but actually my most complex piece with 3 complimentary guitar parts running
01-29-2007 First song actually written and recorded in 2007. All built around the end of the song so stick with it.
1-27-2007 A fun venture into Dance Pop. Recorded in Dec 2006 based on the Home Recording Odyssey song challenge. Andrew Brierly wrote the lyrics.
1-14-07 Classic rock completed over a couple of months. All written, sung and played by me.
12-15-06 A new all played, sung and written by me. A little dancey, a little sardonic. I don't really know what it is
11-14-06 An homage to Pink Floyd. Featuring Mike Wich on Acoustic and Bass. Written and recorded by myself. Myself and Mike on all instruments.
10-25-06 Recorded live in The Tones bandroom. Written, played and sung by The Tones.
10-18-06 Spent a lot of time on this fun little pop rocker
9-30-06 A slower one, downbeat feel with actually upbeat lyrics. All played, sung, and written by myself.
9-7-06 Something completely different. It would be the hidden track on the album
9-4-06: Another pop rocky song. I still struggle with the singing and mixing the vocals but it's not too bad. Everything written, played and sung by me.
8-24-06 A fun punky little number. The Cracks from MD helped write this one and sang backing vocals - everything else is just me
8-5-06: A bouncy guitar driven pop song, funky drums keep it moving. Started out as Pulp ended up closer to late stage New Order but really just all Tones
7-28-06 Mentikoned earlier today that no one is making 3 minutes pop songs any more. Got home found no one in and decided to make one. Took 2 hours total, singing is not that good but it serves it's purpose.
7-25-06 A somewhat experimental collab with Albert Forrsall. He came up with chorus, I did all the music, story and recording/mixing.
7-15-06 Fake Love. Started again with a Gorillaz idea but went elsewhere. Everything except drums played and written and sung by me. Quite happy with this one
7-3-06 This time I attempt to sound like the Gorillaz, kinda ran out of steam on the song though
6-30-06 Another homage to Pulp.
6-13-06 An original written, played and sung by myself. Wanted to do one that would build over the song - a la Snow Patrol - ended up quite different but I'm quite happy with it.
5-22-06 An acoustic(y) version of the song More that was done full band style somewhere down below
5-22-06 Another written, played sung by me. Maybe I need to do the vocals again ? Started as an homage to Ben Folds ended up nothing like that as usual
5-11-06 A Nick Abrahams song with me singing. Recorded a while back but finally mixed by me. One take vocals from me, drums from my loops and lots of Nick guitars and bass
5-13-06 Now finished. I've had trouble getting the vocals to sit right but I've had enough. All written, sung and played by me. POD, Variax, Toneport, MicroKorg
4-27-06 An experiment in lo-fi. First song I ever did on the PS04 exclusively, written and recorded in one hour while sitting in the garage with the children
4-20-06 Word, music, singing all by me (all my fault). No idea where this came from and it did not come out as intended. Let me know what you think
4-15-06 Back by popular demand is Danger 'Computer' Mouse: This is all Charles Evans remixed by me
4-9-06 Part of an original cover song challenge. 8 minutes long, sorry. Recorded 'live'
04-08-06 Well Lee Szwast doesn't like loops so that was just a challenge to take his song and loop it.
04-04-2006 A song primarily done by Manzana, he did all the music and drums, I added the lyrics and vocals. It's a little rough mix wise right now but good to go.
3-25-06: Another one of my one day specials, thought up written, recorded and mixed in one day. I'm pretty happy with this, kind of sounds like Pulp though that was not the plan
Summer 2005 - Another collaboration with Seth Bata. Words and vocals by me, music by Seth. Kind of a two part song so make sure and listen to the start and end
Summer 2005 - A 'lost' collab with Seth Batha. I did the vocals, lyrics and piano, Seth did the rest
03-16-2006 Trying to recapture the excitement of music and not overproduce things. Wrote and recorded this in one day, trying to sound like the Artic Monkey's but I don't have the voice for it.
3-4-06: A quickly thrown together 'how down' cover version of the Eels song, recorded live then vocals added - featuring Mark and Amy on backup
2-28-06 A venture into Synth Pop. As usual came out nothing like I planned 8-(
1-22-06 Another song written & played by myself. I spent a lot of time mixing, EQing and mastering this one. Not sure it made any difference.
1-7-06 Started as an experiment with MIDI but ended up as a real song. It's the Boomtown Rats.
1-3-2006 My continued attempts to rediscover my youth - a cover of The Stranglers song. The first appearance of my Micro Korg. Everything played and sung by me
12-17-05 This is More totally redone based on feedback I received. Faster drums, piano added, strings added, backing vocals added. Writing, sung and played by me.
12-15-05 This is an original written, sung and played by me. Thanks to Nick Abrahams for the guitar solo work
12-14-05 Just a quickly thrown together punk rock cover version. I like the song and wanted to do something. The parts are weak but the sum is not so bad
11-15-05 Written, sung and played by me. I like the chorus, but I'm not sold on the verses yet. Maybe I'll change it
11-11-2005: Another Vintage Two song with Tomas De Camino. Blues is not really my style but it is Tomas's so I went with it.
11-4-05: A collaboration with Nick Abrahams. Nick did all the guitars, I did the singing, mixing and drums.
10-18-05: An original written, sung and played by me. I'm pretty happy with this one, it could be my best yet
10-16-2005: Another song with Tomas de Camino. He laid down a guitar track, then I added some guitar, vocals and many many loops
10-4-05: Another cover version where someone else did all the work. This time Manzana from the Zoom forum. He did all the music and I did the singing.
9-29-05 A cover of Closing Time by Seminsonic.
This is a return to my over produced wall of sound nonsense that I used to do. Everything played and mixed by me
9-28-05 A cover collaboration of Wildflower by the Cult. All music, guitars and drums done by Tomas de Camino, vocals by myself. Please note I had never heard this song before working on this
9-18-05. An Instrumental, another Sunday afternoon football watching filler. Wanted to do a bassline focused song but ended up with this.
9-13-05. Another cover with Tomas De Camino, I did the singing and drums, he did all the music
9-11-05: A Sunday afternoon song. Written quickly using my Variax 500 set to simulate an acoustic. Words were adlibbed then resang to make them fit better.
8-26-05 OK so I've recently been fascinated by those lounge/swing/latin versions of rock songs so I wanted to try one. I think it came out well. I got the chance to use some of my horn loops I've been trying to find a place for.
8-19-2005. The classic Deep Purple song: Call it a collaboration if you want but Tomas De Camino from the Zoom forum did all the work and I just did the singing. Brings back memories of screaming in my bedroom when I was a teenager
8-12-05 Born of my frustration of not being able to write anything. I had the riff, but made the vocals up in one take, then recorded again for doubling
7-30-2005. First song that I've written that I consider "good" - not about my Aunt Linda, first song using the POD Xt
7-23-05. Another one intended to be Johnny Cash that really isn't. I recorded in one take but then accidently over recorded so there's a couple of nasty joins in there.
