Philadelphia’s own Quiet Rage stormed onto the spoken word scene in 2004, and has taken spoken word poetry to a new level. Quiet Rage is comprised of two spit fire poets, Damai and Vision, who are known for their originality, and in your face approach to issue most people choose to skate around. Most people compare them to Outkast musically since they do their poetry to many different types of beats including up tempo hip hop, slow jazzy, and powerful rock beats.
Why this name?
There are two sides to every person and Quiet Rage acknowledgse that. The “quiet” comes from the tranquil sides of both writers/performers when they’re writing their pieces. The rage comes off on stage when performing. The duality of human nature.
Do you play live?
We perform mostly in the United States on the East Coast. We are presently attempting to find venues in Europe or Asia who would be interested in booking us. We absolutely love performing because the rush is a fantastic high. The combination of performing, and getting a message out to people is a phenomenal feeling.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet has revolutionized the music industry. It’s helped to level the playing field for the artist who can still get his/her music and message out without having a record deal from a major record company.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Under the right circumstances. We’d have to all be on the same page artistically.
Band History:
We (Damali and Vision) knew each other from doing the open mic circuits in Philadelphia. Both of us were known for our in your face lyrical styles of tackling social and political issues, as well as trying to take our message, and performance to a higher level. We both have the same drive and ambition so it only made sense to join forces. We mesh so well lyrically.
Your influences?
Damali - Quincy Jones, Prince, Gil Scott Heron, KRS-1, Smokey Robinson
Vision - Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder, Tribe Called Quest, Big Daddy Kane, The Roots
Favorite spot?
We have mad love for all the cities we’ve been to, but there is no place like home. Philadelphia.
Anything else...?
It’s time to put the art back into music, and take it out of the cliche spewing artists who have been in the headlines for too long.
