Face it. Most rap today is cliche. The game is in desperate need of some new players and here is the newest sixth man to sub in. But what do you get when you mix the smoothness of Jay-Z and Big Daddy Kane, with the street bravado of Biggie Smalls and Rakim, and the interesting wordplay and symbolism of Talib Kweli and Nas? Dapa Don, that'ss what! Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., Dapa is no mere hip- hop head. He is the embodiment of a vast vocabulary and genuine love for music. With songs like "The Letter" and "My Crew" in his catalogue, he proves that he is ready to make a name for himself and his team A-Train Productions in the competitive genre of rap. "Music has always been in me and it was just a matter of time before God allowed my talents to blossom into what my craft is today." He"s no Picasso, but the way he paint's pictures in his rhymes you would think that they should be on display in the Guggenheim Museum . Already making a local buzz for himself, Dapa is ready to make his presence felt nationwide. "I've been offered deals before but for some reason or another, the timing just wasn't right, but it's my time now, I'm ready to rep for B.K.@. And that he is. His love for his "borough that's thorough" is evident in his songs. He is able to go from making introvertive songs like "Where Was God?"and "Nothing Ever Changes", to interesting love songs like, "Smiling Face"and Ms. Over. But he keeps it true to the streets he'ss from with songs like "That Fire!!"and "Paper Chase". He has performed in various venues in New York and the eastern seaboard, and has received accolades for his Brooklyn flow, and incredible stage prescence from many at these various shows. Even a few industry execs have had chance meetings with the Don and have complimented him on his style of rap. But now the timing is right and the wait is over and Dapa Don is ready to bring Brooklyn back to the golden era of Biggie for real. His work ethic is impeccable (he is a real lab rat), fashion sense screams New York, and his flow and words yell superstar indeed. Hip hop's newest rookie is ready to take on the game like Lebron James and take it by storm. More recently, Dap has been in negotiations with a major indie player, 808 Music Records. Opting out of major label offers which could have caused unecessary headche, he decided to go with 808. He is about to undergo his most exciting and challenging project ever. Palns to complete and compete with this massive industry are now in full swing and Dap and his newfound staff at 808 are readily up to the task at hand!!
Why this name?
Came from the o.g. himself John Gotti, but mostly from older heads around my way, basically cuz of my style and demeanor
Do you play live?
Yea i've done shows all over ny as well as out of state, D.C., Atl, L.A., all over, but my proudest moment has to be at Princeton University...sooo many people rocked wit me and they aint even know me..The second best has to be rockin this private party where i didnt know any of these people and they knew all my songs and the energy was crazy and it was like 500 people for this private party..
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's great actually, you can reach a broader audience and people in other countries have faster access to you, and your fan base can grow faster
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yea i would, but we all know there is more money in the indie route..but preferably i'd roll wit a koch or tvt..but for now the home team is 808 Music Records...they just gave me a real good situation over there
Your influences?
I love all types of music, but my style comes from a heavy influence of hip hop, with r&b with gospel, so i create REAL songs, not just a bunch of 16's thrown together
Favorite spot?
Aside from my own town, i looooooooooooove miami, and atlanta, i plan to have homes in both of those places within the next year and a half
Equipment used:
I just love a booth that has a real good condenser mic, and for my engineer to have protools or logic behind the boards, so much u can bring out of a song that way
