KINDRED SPIRIT BAND

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

If Jesus walked through the front door, held out his hand, and said “I need you, please come with me.” What would you do?

KINDRED SPIRIT BAND. Yes, that's our band's name, but it's much more than that. Each and every one of us are Kindred Spirits in Jesus Christ. When we started this journey it was with this idea.
For us it's simple. We stand up and go. Wherever and whenever we are asked we simply go. No questions asked. That is the nature of being called. You don't question it. You don't worry about being paid. You don't worry about missing the game on TV. You don't worry about any of the worldly things. You just do what you are called to do. For us it is Praising and Worshiping God through music and trusting that God will take care of our needs. It's equally important to understand that God is everywhere. We are called to fill a need. Any church or Christian event that needs Worship music can call us and we will do everything we can to be there. You see, we owe a debt to Jesus that can never be repaid but we will spend the rest of our lives trying. God has given us all many gifts. Singing, playing an instrument, writing music and songs are all gifts from God and need to be used as such. Stepping up and running sound, running power point, filling any need that comes up is honoring the commitment of answering a calling. We recognize and accept the responsibilities that go along with these gifts. God has blessed us at every turn. It has been the most amazing journey. It is the most incredible thing to feel the Holy Spirit come and reach out and touch people's hearts. It is the most beautiful thing when someone accepts Jesus into his or her life. This is the most important thing one person can do for another. We owe it to all to let them know there is Hope, Forgiveness, and Life in Jesus Christ.

Less of us and more of God.

If Jesus walked through the front door, held out his hand, and said “I need you, please come with me.”

What would YOU do?

Why this name?
We kicked around a lot of ideas. The strongest thing we had in common was our Faith in God. We all feel God has called us to do this. Spiritually we are Kindred Spirits to each other but more importantly collectively we are
Kindred Spirits with God.
Do you play live?
Yes, we play live a lot. We play at Churches, Coffeehouses, Christian events. We all like playing live but not because of the playing. Having the Holy Spirit come and minister to people thru the music is the best. That is
the special part of it all. Any time people are touched by God is special for us.

We play for several Celebrate Recovery programs. This is an important Ministry and we are honored to be of service.

We played at LeClaire Park, in Davenport, Iowa for a youth festival. The coolest thing happened that day. There was a man that was just hanging around the park. We all noticed him when we were setting up. Soon after we started playing we all noticed him being prayed for and found out later he accepted Jesus. This is what it’s all about and God gets all the credit and glory. It was God’s Hand working through the music. We are vessels and nothing more than that. Without God’s Holy Spirit this is just music and we are just musicians.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I believe it has changed things a lot. I know it's a cliche, but the world has gotten smaller. For us it's the coolest thing. We have people literally from all over the world going on our website and listening. I also think the industry is changing because of the internet. I think/hope that very soon music will be controlled more by the people making music instead of the people reaping the "rewards".

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I think yes we probably would. But things would have to be right. The label would have to share our vision and our goals. This is not about making as much money as you can.
Band History:
The band first met each other as another worship leader was organizing a Contemporary Worship Service, over three years ago. At the time, nobody had a clue that such lasting friendships would be forged then and there. When the original worship leader left, Marv was asked to take over the leadership role. He reluctantly took the position, as music was his first love, and not organizing and running a Contemporary Worship Service. It was at this point that the band really gelled. There have been some rough times, but mostly it has been pure joy, due to the music connecting musician to God, each other, and the listeners.
Your influences?
We all like Good music. Music that touches hearts. It doesn't matter too much what genre it is. We all like rock, blues, and maybe on an off day a little country. (lol.) The main thing is that the music has integrity. Good solid lyrics, strong hooklines both musically and lyrically.
Favorite spot?
As cheesy as this is going to sound. Anywhere we happen to be, as long as we are playing and praising God.
This can be time spent with family or friends just appreciating the joys that God has brought to our lives.
Equipment used:
We are pretty straightforward. We do use Yamaha electric drums cause they are easier to control, soundwise. On vocals we use a T.C. Electronics M-One. It's one of the best processors I have used. We use a lot of pedals for the acoustic
guitar. 2 chorus pedals, EQ pedal, reverb pedal, over drive pedal (I finally found one that will work with the acoustic guitar), and a Univibe.

Anything else...?
If Jesus walked thru your front door right now extended His Hand and said "I need you please come with Me". What would you do?

Because that is what being called is. You don't think about it you just take His hand and go.
