D.J. FERN is not a band. Some people may say that i'm not a D.J. but more like a beat maker or remixer...
Why this name?
Well the first part was easy due to the fact that i d.j. sometimes, but fern actually came to me from a female many years ago who told me once that i was "Fantastic Erotic Romantic and Neverending" so i broke it down to f.e.r.n now known everywhere i work as either d.j.fern or just fern.
Do you play live?
Sometimes i dj live at lounges and clubs, i've done house parties and school events around the area. My best memories was when i played at Mount Carmel (private school).I threw a back to school party we didn't expect more than 100 people but we got hit with way over 200 and had to call a few friends to stand guard at door to keep the peace. Everyone was cool no fights no probles infact some chilled outside listening to the music while they took turns going in and out the party.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet is going to be the downfall of music unless we all as a community say no to piracy and buy our music. I myself am scared that when i put out an album people are going to bootleg it and im not going to see a dime of it.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of cource i would sign a record contract with a major label. Thats why i went from mix dj to beat maker and put them together to have a shot at a deal.
Band History:
I was born in Puerto Rico in April 1977 but raised in jersey city, nj since 1986. It wasn't untill 1994 that i got my first set of tables and a sampler, I always was a fan of music. Infact i use to get my moms dual tape deck and my deck put them together and mix tapes to create my own mix tapes. I also use to record cartoon noises and mix them together to creat and intro. Then when i started to sample in 94 with my gemini 12 sec sampler, I knew then that i wanted to be more than a regular dj. I wanted to create trax. Iguess you can say i've been experimenting with sounds for over 10 years but i've only been compiling new trax for the past 6. I've been rejected already by a few big names they wouldn't give me the time of day. I guess just because im a waiter at IHOP. But with rejection comes more energy and focus on trying to make it better.
Your influences?
My influences in todays time are DonOmar, LunyTunes, Pitbull, DJ Nelson, Cassanova, Daddy Yankee, NAS, LilJohn, Eminem, DrDre, 50cent, The Game, Timberlan, Neptunes, Jay-z, Mo gga, Damon Dash, N.O.R.E., DJ premier, Fat Joe, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Warren G, Dj Jazzy J, RZA and Wyclef just to name a few.
Favorite spot?
My favorite spot i would have to say is.....any bar!

Anything else...?
For now i have to leave my info as is. By the way, I also use my friend's studio every once in a while but since i work so much my time is limited. So on that note, if you like anything you hear and would like to collaborate on a project, and are serious, hit me up and well set up an appointmet. Aight then peace to all and to all happy mixing.....
