Si Ti Snorb
Also Stammelte Zarathustra
STAMMER grew out of the fascination with sound. Instead of subordinating sound to harmony and melody, pure sound is treated as an extraordinary way of expression. Using synthesizers and computer programs to explore and catch 'found' sounds, serendipity plays a significant role in the creation proces.
Why this name?
The word STAMMER reflects the nature and intention of my compositions. In normal life a person starts to stammer when they are overcome by emotion and they can't find the words. They start to repeat and to make inarticulate sounds. They lose the cerebral control over their voice organs and it seems as if the mechanisms of speech start their own life. Nevertheless the emotion expressed by a stammering voice can be much more intensive then a normal, articulate voice.
So the major source of my inspiration is the fascination for things that happen almost randomly, fortuitous, without intention or purpose while at the same time provoking and suggesting a strong emotion.
Do you play live?
No, my music is impossible to reproduce on stage.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It will lead to the fall of the established mega-stars and open up possibilities for much more original minor musicians. There is however a risk that the lack of established channels, selection procedures and criticisms will create a situation where the real talents will be buried under the loads of trash music.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, I would
STAMMER took off seriously in 1997, when the first cassette was produced. Three privately produced CD's followed in 1997, 1999 and 2002. A fourth CD has just been released (May 2005). STAMMER exposes ideas, music and
photography on its own web page.
