How did the name “Kats wit 9 livez “come about? The name “Kats wit 9 lives” is taken from different elements of hip-hop, life and the music industry. When we came into this industry we knew it wasn’t going to be easy so we had to have ‘nine lives’ in all we encounter. “Kats wit 9 lives” is therefore some little motto that keeps us going when we are down. That’s where the ‘9 livez’ comes from. Were the ‘Kat’ comes from is basically jargon used by fellow rappers out there instead of saying for instance: “the man can rap”, in the rap industry you would say that the “Kat can rap”. Kat is a word that replaces words like guy, dude and bro etc. In a nutshell that is where “Kats wit 9 livez” comes from.

When was the group formed? The group was officially formed in 2002. The group members were rapping together since 1998, sending out demo tapes and then graduated to CD’s when CD-writers came into the market. The group has been together ever since. We are family now, like brothers and sister.

The Fuges and most of the Interscope Records artists influence our music. What we do is to take those influences and bring them here at home. What then comes out is k-9. That’s just a simple example to try and describe our sound, but you really have to hear it for yourself.

So what about k-9? : “Kats wit 9 livez” is the payoff line. k-9 is the brand and our fan base knows us as k-9. The name has blown up and it seems people find it easier to use. While people may confuse us with K9 we make it clear that we are branded k-9, which differentiates us from the reference to dogs.
