Born from a trapped mind freed by a muse, Falling Rain (also known as Faction) is the colaboration between Jeff Schweiger, a creative guitarist and music lover, and Matthew Neff, a young power voice with a way with words. The music delves into lust, madness, incarceration, conformity, self-destructiveness, love, forgiveness, and anarchy. Recorded totally acousticlly with no editing, it is the seed that both Matthew and Jeff hope will grow into a great band, whether they are creating music together, or apart.
Why this name?
Oringinally, the duo was known as Faction, and we still like that name. Unfortunately, it got snagged. So we thought to ourselves "what evokes thought, what gives people perspective, what helps a mind free itself? The rain. The rain that you stare at all day and think silly, absurd thoughts because of. Only they're not silly. They're real, and sometimes they hurt. Sometimes the sound of the rain isn't enough to placate a mind, sometimes a raised voice, or a sad lament is the only cure.
Do you play live?
Not currently, no. Very unpolished at this point, with zero equipment. Also the fact that we both live in different states ain't helping much. I'm (Matthew) constantly looking forward to meeting new musicians in my area of Atlanta, Georgia, and i would really like to join up with some talented people with open minds to create some rad music. Jeff is content to be my muse when we get to see each other, he helps my music side, and encourages me to continue down the path. I (Jeff) am looking to find someone in Miami that can sing and wants to get out and play live.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
We love that people like us, a nobody with a dream of being heard, can have their moment to shine, to touch someone, or at least grab 3 minutes of their time to make your own.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course, but we wouldn't change any lyrics or approach to lyricism. It's out of the question.
Your influences?
I (Matthew) have such a vast array of singers across a hundred different genres, it would be unjust to name them, for fear of forgetting one.
I (Jeff) have been influenced by such amazing bands as Radiohead, Collective Souls, Live, STP, and Nirvana. My other musical influence is in the classical arena and includes Bach, Chopin and Mozart.
Favorite spot?
My favorite place is definately the state I spent my adolescence in. Alaska freed my mind, imprisoned my body, and made me fall in love with life. My (Jeff) favorite place, most definitely is Miami, where the sun and surf is warm and every sunset is breathtaking.
Equipment used:
Matthews voice, and Jeffs uses a 1955 Gibson J50 acoustic.
Anything else...?
We hope you enjoy the music, and if you don't, tell us why. And if you do, definately tell us why! Thank you!
