Basically, what my "band" is as of now is a one-man "indie" (what a deplorable term) folk unit. I'll probably add a drummer at some point, along with a bassist, keyboardist and possibly another guitarist. I've recorded an album's worth of material that encompasses eight originals and a few covers, all done in the high tech heaven that is my school's television studio.
Why this name?
A lot of people like to say that they got their band name in some inventive way. They didn't, chances are, they looked at the track listings of their LPs and decided to do a mystery bag jumble and mixed and matched song titles. Or if they were feeling industrious, they pulled out, oh say, a Vonnegut novel and chose a random phrase because it adds that much more credibility to their name. They returned the book to the library the next day, having read no more that one sentence.
Do you play live?
I try to play live, but I'm a bit more absorbed with film making. It's fun when the crowd is into it, I think I'll work on a rendition of Freebird based solely off the lyrics, having never actually heard the song.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It makes it better. It's been so awful it'll be a nice change of pace to see the major record labels sink into the sea.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Why wouldn't I? Hey it may be a sinking ship, but damned if they don't have great cocktails.
Band History:
I started getting serious about making music (rather, stopped sucking completely) about a half year ago. I'm going to go record an album with decent production quality in the near future, probably doing most of the instruments besides drums.
Your influences?
Paul Westerberg is my hero and he should be Minnesota's favorite son if he isn't already. People say I sound like the Mountain Goats, but I feel song writing-wise, I have a lot in common with, in addition the the Mountain Goats and Westerberg, the Pixies, not so much sound-wise, but the structure of the songs.
Favorite spot?
Minneapolis is cool.
Equipment used:
A Rickenbacker 330, Fender Stratocaster '62 reissue, Line 6 Flextone III (I really need to get rid of this thing), POD XT Live
Anything else...?
