Formed in the early summer of 2004, the Merry Koalas were created as a remedy to the many indie clones that flooded the teeside music scene.
Driven by lead singer Sean Knight to create a new kind of guitar music that still remained faithful to its influences the rest of the band, guitarist Chris Mcleod, Bassist Nikolas Zaitschenko and Drummer Marie Mcleod, all had varying tastes in music and their many influences would help shape something original.
Why this name?
The Merry Koalas name came about as a rival to joke band Panda Party, somehow hte name just stuck due to a number of band meetings being unable to shake it
Do you play live?
Yet to play live to a full crowd, frontman Sean has been known to play in the MIddlesbrough Arena with an Acoustic on many occasions.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
We think it is a good way for up and coming artists to get there music out to a broader audience at minimum price.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course!
Band History:
Formed in June 2004, the Merry Koalas were supposed to perform their first gig the following july for a birthday party, along with many other bands, unfortunately promises of sound engineer support fell through and no bands played at all, instead Guitarist Chris Mcleod was recruited to play an acoustic piece for a singer from another local band and a number of other performances occured throughout the night.
The band shortly moved on to writing and recording some of their own material, while songs like coma and the koala theme still exist today on old 4 track tapes the band have yet to arrange a reunion and get down the studio.
Once reffered to as "The most over-hyped band on teeside, and they haven't even recorded a song yet" the Merry Koalas will return
