In the summer of 1999, five young men combined their talents and with two weeks of garage practices yielded their first live show under the name “Cornerstone.” The name stuck and four years later, and after a few member changes, Cornerstone has completed two CDs, played innumerable concerts, and has a dedicated fan base stretching everywhere in between.

Today, Cornerstone is seven members strong. Jessy Vera, Emily Glidden, Robert Gossard, Ben Harrell, Chris Ashley, Bryon Kunz, and Jeremy Wayland share one belief that it is their calling to effectively communicate God s love and faithfulness to believers and non-believers alike, without compromising the power and the strength of The Gospel of Jesus Christ. From coffeehouses and clubs to national youth conventions and a tri-state tour, God has used Cornerstone to spread the Gospel to people of all backgrounds, denominations, ages, and beliefs.
Why this name?
Cornerstone comes from Isaiah 28:16 which says, "So this is what the Sovereign LORD says:
“See, I lay a stone in Zion,
a tested stone,
a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation;
the one who trusts will never be dismayed.

Jesus is the cornerstone and everything that we are is built upon Him. Without Him our lives would crumble.
Do you play live?
Yes we play live. We will play anywhere people are willing to have us come. We love it. We live for the live show. The most memorable live shows that we have done seem to be the ones early on in our career. I remember one time we traveled to Arizona to play at a Berean Christian Book Store. It was a long hard drive and we ended up playing to two people playing chess right in front of the speakers. Although they were plugging their ears the whole time I think they liked it =).
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
inter-what? mp-who?
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If we felt it was God's will. And we found the right lable. Yes.
Band History:
Since their beginning, Cornerstone experienced many changes in both music and ministry. When they started out, Cornerstone began their ministry playing for local churches, skating rinks, and various youth events. During this time, Cornerstone struggled with unity and with finding God s calling. Over the years, Cornerstone has developed into a strong group of seven, who have found the focus that comes with God’s calling in their lives. As the members of the group changed, so did the music.

After beginning with a sound that would be considered true ska, Cornerstone’s music eventually evolved into an alternative rock style that blurred the lines between genres. Amidst their musical transformation, Cornerstone has kept their brass an integral part of their music. The music is not only rich with talent, but their lyrics force listeners to question conventional wisdom by providing answers found only within a relationship with Jesus Christ. From hard, punchy choruses to sweet, harmony-infused tracks, Cornerstone s sound is truly one-of-a-kind.
