About the song
God War is Raw Dog spelled backwards, that is why we named the CD these songs are on "God War". Man's will verses God's will. In this song, the message shows a parallel of likeness of the Pharisees and the modern day pastors. Of course this is not a popular subject to those who worship their pastors instead of Jesus. This type of message seems to bring rejection with the religious crowd. There is an old saying " If the shoe fits wear it". If this is offensive it might be because you are a part of that crowd. Adapted from Matthew 23 to fit into modern day Christianity this song is dedicated to the pastors and teachers who are in opposition to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
The lead guitar was done with a Marshal amp and the band played this one on a Taskam 4 track cassette player.
Lyrics
Phylacteries
by Hahn, Roman & Schwartz
Scripture readings
adapted from Matthew 23

Surrender, Surrender, Surrender,
your phylacteries
Whoever exalts himself
shall be humbled
Whoever humbles himself
shall be exalted
Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and
to His disciples, saying: The pastors and
the teachers have seated themselves in
the chair of Moses. Therefore all that they
tell you, do and observe, but do not do
according to their deeds: for they say things
and do not do them and they tie up heavy
loads and lay them on men's shoulders but
they themselves are unwilling to move them
with so much as a finger.
But they do all their deeds to be noticed
by men for they memorize their scriptures
and they memorize their sermons and they
dress up for God in their Sunday best,
thinking that by these things they will draw
men to God. And they love the place of
honor at banquets and the chief seats in
the churches and respectful greetings in
the market places and being called by
men, Pastor, Teacher.

Eat, drink and be merry
for tomorrow we die
Avoiding contrition
it's the fool's battle cry

There's coming a day
good deeds wont help you score
There's no hope for tomorrow
if you don't find the door

The crux of your energy
is misguided at best
You're lord of your destiny
but you're failing the test

Save the whales
Plant a tree
I'm not involved
What's wrong with me?
What's wrong with you?
Here comes world peace
I'm not impressed
The ills of man, have been refreshed

Rape the land, you rob the poor,
election day, and you want more
You've had enough!
You separate, the church and state,
on judgement day, you won't be late

Don't be late
Its five minutes past the hour?
I want to go home!
I'm tired of this preaching
I wanna go home, home, home!
But woe to you, pastors and teachers,
hypocrites, because you shut off the
Kingdom of Heaven from men, for you
do not enter in yourselves, nor do you
allow those who are entering to go in.
Woe to you, pastors and teachers,
hypocrites, for you clean the outside of
the cup and the dish, but inside they are
full of robbery and self-indulgence.
Woe to you, pastors and teachers,
hypocrites, for you are like white-washed
tombs which on the outside appear beautiful
but inside they are full of dead men's
bones and all uncleanness.

He calling us blind guides
blind guides

Surrender your weapons
Throw them down on the ground
The truth is the truth
to this we are bound
and abandon your sin
Give allegiance to Jesus
obey only Him

There is no way
out of this place
You will gain nothing
saving your face

Be perfectly still
or you wont hear His voice
Heaven or Hell
you make the choice

Surrender, Surrender, Surrender,
your phylacteries

When Jesus speaks
some understand
They take it to heart
they change their plans

Just like a seed
dies in the dirt
Cracking the shell
given new birth

Think about your destiny
short time until eternity
Walk by the faith you receive from above
rooting out evil - Burning with love

Woe to you, pastors and teachers, hypocrites
for you build the tombs of the prophets and
adorn the monuments of the righteous, and
say, If we had been living in the days of our
fathers, we would not have been partners with
them in shedding the blood of the prophets.
Consequently, you bear witness against
yourselves, that you are sons of those who
murdered the prophets. Fill up then the measure
to the guilt of your fathers. You serpents, you
brood of vipers, how shall you escape the
sentence of hell?
Therefore, behold, I am sending you prophets
and wise men and teachers, some of them
you will kill and crucify, and some of them
you will scourge in your churches, and
persecute from city to city, that upon you
may fall the guilt of all the righteous blood
shed on earth.

Do not be called teacher,
for one is your Teacher
and you are all brothers
Do not call anyone on earth
your father,
for One is your Father
He who is In Heaven
Do not be called leaders,
for One is your leader,
that is, Christ.
But the greatest among you
shall be your servant

Whoever exalts himself
shall be humbled
Whoever humbles himself
shall be exalted

0 Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the
prophets and stones those who are sent
to her! How often I wanted to gather
your children together the way a hen
gathers her chick under her wings and
you were unwilling.
Behold your house is being left to you
desolate for I say to you, from now on
you shall not see me until you say,
Blessed is He who comes in the
Name of the Lord.

Surrender, Surrender, Surrender.
