This is a project put together by myself from anything and everything that has inspired me musically. It is a total abandonment of the usual rock thoroughfare as well as an attempt to put the mysteries of life on other worlds into musical compositions.
Why this name?
I was thinking about floating in space one night and this name came to me...
Do you play live?
I do not intend this to be a live project. It is a project made purely out of lust for knowledge of the things that live on other worlds.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
If used properly and as intended, it is a wonderful service to spread thoughts and inspiration and joy of music to those that appreciate it. If used improperly, it becomes coporate and all about money, which is not what music is about.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
No. Record labels are just that. They are business primarily in the business to make money. If you are not a profit for them they will feed you to the dogs.
Band History:
This project has been a long time coming. Ever since I heard what ambient/electronica sounded like, I've always wanted to express the feelings of wonder and mystery I've had about life on other planets. Through the use of soundscapes and structures, the electronic genre has allowed me to express this love and wonder and convey it to a broad audience.
Your influences?
I love all music from Nintendo's Metroid games. Kenji Yamamoto, the composer for most of the pieces, has an amazing way of putting music to the mysterious, wonderous worlds of Metroid. For this project, I've also gathered inspiration from a really fantastic group that my friend Alice showed me named Shpongle. In addition to this, I will always keep my rock roots, and progressive rock is where my heart currently lies as far as this is concerned. Bands like Rush, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, among others are the groups that I'm currently listening to.
Favorite spot?
My hometown of Bolingbrook, IL.
Equipment used:
I have a Fostex digital multitrack that I use for the ocassional sample as well as a home studio computer setup complete with mixer, preamps, and condenser mics at home. But I am currently at WIU right now, and I left most of this equipment at home. Here at school, I have only my laptop and my M-Audio Radium 49 midi controller keyboard. For Ellipsing Al-Gol, Lonely Moon, and Commuting Light I used Fruity Loops Studio 4.0, a sound synthesis sequencing program for the computer. However, I have discovered Reason, and purchased Reason 2.5. I now solely use Reason in place of Fruity Loops. It's an amazing program, and I learn new things about it each day!
Anything else...?
Please feel free to leave any comments you wish. It is my hope that these pieces can transport you to another world...to a place where stellar beauty is all you can see...
