Several songs cut by other artists. Signed with Lamon Records of Charlotte, NC (with Nashville offices and worldwide distribution), with the first single released in July 2006 ("While It is Day"), album called "No Denying", released June 13, 2006. Available through major distributors worldwide, and online at www.indieheaven.com/artists/becky_wright .
June 2006: "Child of My Heart" (aka the adoption song) won "Duo of the Year" (Becky Wright & Tommy Brandt) at the Agape Fest Fan Appreciation Awards in Texas.
In 2004, 2-time Top 5 Nominee for Female Vocalist of the Year (CCMA), Christian artist Jeanie Kay Truesdale, recorded two of my songs, tracks 1 and 9 on her CD, "I Know Him", available nationwide at Wal-Mart and Family Christian Bookstores. New Christian country artist Roma Hill recorded two more of my songs on her album released Nov. 2004. Both artists are on the MPi Christian label out of Nashville. Recently a new Sony Nashville artist has cut one of my country tunes on her work tape (Jan. 2006), so we are hopeful!
I write mostly contemporary Christian, praise & worship, some A/C ballads, positive country, Christian country, and southern gospel. I have several songs published in Nashville and Atlanta, as well as my own publishing company, Becky Wright Songs (ASCAP). I also write songs for TV/film, and provided the instrumental music for an international award-winning video produced by Northeastern State University (Tahlequah, OK) and the Chamber of Commerce. I have several contemporary Christmas songs, wedding songs (several in high demand), and perform/minister at churches, Christian conferences (for women, singles, pastors, youth, etc.).
Why this name?
It's my name! LOL! Because I married "Mr. Right" (I mean Mr. Wright). :)
Do you play live?
Churches, adoption events (esp. in Oklahoma), Christian conferences and retreats, youth groups, schools, communtiy functions, weddings, even funerals. All part of life! Obviously, funerals are the hardest, but the need might perhaps be the greatest. God has actually given me some VERY powerful songs that TRULY gave people hope and comfort in desperate times. Weddings are always fun-- obviously happy events (for the most part!). Concerts are great, too, but a lot of work. However, I get to really show my personality and work in a lot of humor and wisdom I've learned in a concert setting (like churches or women's retreats, etc.) because I get to speak AND sing, and tell where my songs came from.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It creates more opportunity for all, but more responsibility for each! Unfortunately, there will always be dishonest people in the world who will take something for nothing (even illegally), but I have to do my part to promote responsible actions on both sides of the songs, AND trust that God sees all things and will judge righteously!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
CERTAINLY, if I didn't have to compromise my writing/lyrics, etc. to be something I don't feel good about concerning God's Word and His will for my life and anyone listening to my music. DECEMBER 2005: JUST SIGNED WITH LAMON RECORDS!!!! They match my vision for ministry, and excellence in artistry! A God-thing, for sure! www.lamonrecords.com
Band History:
I've been performing in public since childhood, and won several talent shows from childhood to college. Two indie albums so far, currently availalbe only through me. (When I temporarily stopped touring when I had children, I pulled them out of the bookstores they were in.) "Stand in the Gap" in 1990 and "Rejoice" in 1993. Toured in Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and had appearances in California, Illinois, and Ohio. Pursuing writing more (settled down with family), but GEARING UP to do another Contemporary Christian album of my own this summer! Some songs I just need to sing myself...
Your influences?
I cut my teeth growing up on Linda Ronstadt, Elton John, Olivia Newton-John, and so on! In Christian music, my influences and similarities of style are with Twila Paris, Steven Curtis Chapman, Jaci Velazquez, Avalon, Point of Grace, Russ Taff. I LOVE Casting Crowns and Selah, and Erin O'Donnell's voice! Many people say that I remind them of Martina McBride, too. (Wow- thanks!)
Favorite spot?
Eureka Springs, Arkansas (for short vacations), Silver Dollar City (for the kids in ALL of us), and Tahlequah, Oklahoma (to live!)
Equipment used:
Shure SM58 mic, Kawai and Alesis keyboards/synths, and good friends who know how to play guitar when I need that kind of demo!
Anything else...?
So many gifted musicians and writers (like many talents) become "best-kept secrets". My boss recently encouraged/rebuked me (kindly) last month that I (like many of YOU) have a God-given talent and message, not a "manufactured" one, and that I needed to share it with the world, and not just expect others to do it (like letting everyone ELSE sing my songs, instead of me). She said that her son felt the disappointment and disillusionment that "his generation" (young adults today) had not contributed anything "great" to our society as past generations have. That truly struck and convicted me, that I need to pursue this "dream" again-- not for my glory, but so that the world can be enriched and blessed by the little "mark" I might make. My younger sister, a mother of 5 young children, drowned last summer. I can't tell you (and don't need to) of the shock and grief we're all experiencing since then, and how it compels me all the more to make the most of the days that God has given me, and do what I can to leave a legacy to my children and the people who knew me. Something eternal... something worthwhile... pointing people to a better life-- not just living for the moment with selfish, short-sighted choices. That's our challenge! Be all you can be... for the right reasons! God Bless!!!
