Why this name?
The name comes from the bible scripture 1 Peter 2:9 and that it not only represents us (RP) as the rap group but, ALL believers in Christ who were once in darkness but are now called (as priests) out of that same darkness into God's marvellous light and to shine that "Light" on a dark world. We do that through the vehicle of rap music and the culture of hip-hop.
Do you play live?
Yes! We go just about anywhere we are called. We have played from Kansas to Chicago to Miami & Royal Palm Beach Florida and as far as Naples, Italy and we are returning to Italy Sept. 2005
Special moments? We once did a show where the demograpics were primarily hispanic so there was a definate language barrier. But after the show was done, MANY people, both young and old came down and gave their lives to Christ!!! We didn't even know that they didn't understand our language until the Pastor of that church was marveled and told us.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Worldwide distribution! Period. The conveinience of obtaining music via the internet as opposed to going to the store to by CDs is a big thing. Plus, there's that issue with downloading MP3s.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It depends. Where does (RP) fit in their scheme of things? Are they strictly for making money or do they really believe in what we are all about and what we are doing. There has to be a balance. We would LOVE to get signed on a major label. The promotion and distribution aspects would be off the meter! I would like to see a gospel division of Def Jam Recordings (Def Gospel?)!! But, at the same time, we don't want to be "boxed" in the gospel label because our music, our message is for the "sick". Those who are well don't need a doctor. They need encouragement and guidance. We do both.
Band History:
Royal Priesthood has been in existance since Jan. 1995
Your influences?
Kevin Blanco and I (DJ X-sinna') are total opposites in every concievable way. His influences come from West Coast Rap with some rock influences. I am very eclectic so I have MANY musical influences. from classical to classic rock, R&B to jazz. As far as rap influences go, I love East Coast producers like DJ Premier, Easy Mo Bee, Mantronix, Pete Rock, Alchemist, The Neptunes and the late great Jam Master Jay (RIP), As for East Coast producers? Dr. Dre! Period!!!
Favorite spot?
Miami, except for the heat!
Equipment used:
MPC 2000 XL, ASR-10, 2 Technics 1200 turntables and ProTools
Anything else...?
I am starting a production company called Sound Doctrine Productions. I beleive that God has called us to set the tone and standards by which other rap music will be measured. The Sound Doctrine sound will be distinct from the rest. Combining hard and aggressive tracks with smooth lyrics, and/or content - and the reverse. The sound will purely be experimental as Sound Doctrine dares to do with gospel hip-hop music that very few would even think of doing. Our music will be heard on secular radio as well as Christian. Mixing the old school with next school Sound Doctrine Productions will be a force to be reckoned with.
The name Sound Doctrine stems from the scripture in 2 Tim. 3-4 The time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they will turn their ears away from truth and be turned aside to fables. Also it a play on words SOUND: hip-hop music - DOCTRINE: The Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The agenda of Sound Doctrine Productions is to change the face of rap music: doing away with all weak, watered down production - pushing the limits on creativity at the same time being embraced by people who would never listen to rap nor even liked rap music. In short: Our purpose is to change the lives of those who don't know Jesus Christ and introduce them to Him through cutting edge music that will also change rap music as a whole and the culture of hip-hop as a whole.
