Theophilus has been affectionately dubbed "Mutt-rock" by our college fans as we melt funk and folk and rock and blues into an infectious blend unique among area Christian and secular music. Our first record, I'll Wake Up Tomorrow (mastered at Turtletone Studios in NYC) is slated for release in March 2005. We also have a combination of live recordings and alternate studio versions of our summer concert setlist available on the official website, at our purevolume location and our soundclick location. Theophilus focuses most of its energies on original music sets, yet has also partnered with Capax Dei Church (www.capaxdei.com) in Rochester. The band, along with her members, continues to grow and change, evolving with all the life throws at it, yet the core values that formed the band continue to hold true. We love to serve people through music. Sometimes that means providing a musical escape from reality, other times that means communal connections with God through it. If our music can help, we'd love to offer it.
Why this name?
Theophilus means Friend (philus) of God (Theo) in greek. This is the person, persons, or large group that Dr. Luke wrote to in the early '60s... as in 60 AD
Do you play live?
We love to play live! I think most musicians do. In the studio, we can pristinely create our aural dreams, and then live, we get a chance to recreate the whole thing new.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
We'd sign with a label, should the timing and the circumstances be right. But signing a deal isn't the end-all of things... it's merely another beginning. if we're blessed with that, fabulous! if not, our career will still be great.
