Welcome to the Bochum Parkway section! We are a 5 piece Sheffield (UK) based band who have been together since 2003 (current line up mid 2004) and play a style of music which uses influences from indie through to electronic music. We've been likened to New Order/Joy Division and Spiritualized amongst others, and described as Techno-funk and a "formless mess" by one reviewer who didn't quite get it!
Why this name?
It's a road name which we think makes a decent band name...
Do you play live?
Just Sheffield at the moment, we're still getting the hang of it but recently appeared at the Leadmill, widely regarded as the best small venue in the UK, which has to rate as a highlight.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It obviously makes more music (especially new unsigned artists) more widely available, which can only be a good thing...
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If it was the right offer for us...
Band History:
The original 4 piece line-up formed in 2003, but original bassist Sam Hardwick was replaced by Stephen Hobson in 2004, and James Dennis joined as synth player around the same time to boost the line up to a 5 piece. Gigging began in Summer 2004, and a small but loyal and noisy following is slowly growing. We have recorded 2 demo Cd's and also made a number of video's to accompany the tracks. All of this is available on our website www.bochumparkway.com
Your influences?
Varied...Interpol, Happy Mondays, Campag Velocet, WARP records, Smiths, Joy Division/New Order...a variety of guitar based music, and also loads of techno/dance/electronic stuff...
Anything else...?
