Dormitory Effect are 4 women who have banded together to form a metal band unlike anything else...a hard-hitting sound that is NOT indie rock, NOT Riot Grrrl, NOT pseudo-punk, just pure Metal.
Why this name?
When women are in close quarters then tend to fall into the same cycle. It's called the Dormitory Effect. Seemed fitting...
Do you play live?
Yes, we have begun to play out on Long Island, and soon NYC and beyond, hopefully. We've all had experience playing out-of-state and in conferences like SXSW, so we'd love the chance to do the same with this group.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Certainly makes music more accessible, allowing people to seek out cool music the current radio/video conglomerate ignores. It has also made artists more independent and able to spread the word about their music without having to kill themselves to physically promote, get management, or a record deal.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Sure, as long as we don't have to sell our souls, compromise our music, lose our publishing and the label doesn't sign us and forget about us, using us as a tax write-off at the end of the year.
Band History:
Four New York women, Susan, Meredith, G and Urith paid their dues in such bands as Perseverance, One Step Beyond and Sympathetic Magic. Influential and instrumental in showing that metal was not just for the boys, these ladies have wowed show and radio audiences with their sheer talent and knack for writing strong, aggressive yet memorable material. After years of mutual admiration and guest appearances, they have finally decided to take on the world as a united force - Dormitory Effect.
Formed New Year’s Day, 2004, Dormitory Effect has a lot to live up to as all of the members’ former bands were well established acts. Guitarist Hermann’s Perseverance was a signed act produced by Biohazard’s Billy Grazeidei touring with several regional and national acts. One Step Beyond, former home of uber-vocalist Wendelken and bassist Myree, was one of the most acclaimed local acts ever. They were selected to open for Black Sabbath and other national as well as regional acts and received extensive radio airplay. Their self-released debut CD was produced by Grammy-nominated artist Joaquin Lievano. Powerhouse drummer "G" was a core member of Sympathetic Magic (formerly known as Neutron Cafe). An all-female unit, they garnered its solid fanbase with its relentless gigging schedule and impressive demos which made them the toast of the underground.
The music of this exciting new juggernaut? Melodic, yet heavy, propelled by a voice that is considered one of the best. A sound that celebrates the old while embracing the new. Powerful grooves articulated with a level of musicianship that well exceeds expectations. A live show that never disappoints. All done without excessive hype or gimmicks.
Dormitory Effect is ready to unleash its brand of metal upon the unsuspecting masses...with no regrets, no holding back, and no equals.
