Were a band from New York City by the name of Remenitia. Remenitia consists of Nikkiteen on Bass Guitar and Vocals, Tony 2 Shots on Guitar and Back Up Vocals, and J-Boom on Drums. We sound like dirty NYC gutter rock being molested by Pacific Northwest sludge. So were like a grungy band but with a NYC dirty twist on it. So we tend to be diverse in our sound cause we dont only want to stick to 1 sound all the time. Our songs on here speak for themselves.
Why this name?
Our band name was created when Tony was taking words that sounded cool, and chopping and editing them to form a non-existing word which was then the journey of our band to give this empty word a strong meaning as we go through misadventures. REmeniscing The deMENtia of the milITIA...
Do you play live?
Yes we play live. We have played at various clubs in Manhattan, and even some on Staten Island. Some of the clubs have been the Pyramid Club, The COntinental, Dock St, Otto's Shrunken Head, and others. We love playing shows a lot and plan on playing more and more songs in the future. 1 of our special moments was our very 1st show when we were in our fetal stage, as well as our Staten Island show when we were all super drunk and put on a short drunken crazy raunchy performance.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Yes, the internet changed the music industry, cause now underground bands can share their music at a much more faster rate with the world as its shared amongst friends, but at the same time, its a double edge sword, cause if everyone just downloads the band's music, but doesnt buy the cd, then the band loses money or the record companies dont make more albums of the bands since they think they arent selling well or popular enough, when in fact, they might be, but since so many people downloaded the songs, it never showed in record sales.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, if we got offered a decent deal where we can continue to play the music we love, while at the same time, finally being able to make a decent living off of it, then yes, we would sign to a major deal and share our music with the world.
Band History:
REMENITIA formed when Tony, Nikki, and James converged in a little gutter located in the mouth of a War Dog which we call Queens, New York City. Were a power rock trio, here to bring you the sludgy dirty rock that you have been craving for. Were into all sorts of music, primarily grunge, riot grrrl, punk and anything that's dirty and raunchy like us. We like to write about all sort of themes, ranging from social issues, drug addiction, child abuse, anti-government/anti-war rhetoric, love-hate, feminism, anti-racism, obnoxious-sarcasm, dirty-raunchy crudeness, to other metaphoric themes and abstract ideas and wacky things as well. So we don't always take ourselves seriously, cause it's good to have fun making music and not always make it into something serious, and to still be able to poke fun at things in a humorous way. Were pretty much a bunch of dirty raunchy political degenerate f***ers out to have a good time bringing you the filth that you other dirty f***ers long for. Come see us play and see for yourself! You can also contact us at remenitia@aol.com for booking or to just say hello! And feel free to add us as your friends, since were always happy to meet other cool bands out there. We love playing shows in NYC and we hope to eventually play shows outside of NYC as well when the time comes.
Your influences?
We are influenced by a lot of bands such as grunge bands like Nirvana, Hole, Pearl Jam, Babes In Toyland, Mudhoney, 7 Year bi***, Alice In Chains, L7, Temple Of The Dog, Green River, The Thermals, The Gits, The Catheters, The Melvins, and riot grrrl bands like Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kinney, Bratmobile, The Casual Dots, Heavens To Betsy, Huggy Bear, The Gossip and other bands like Sonic Youth, Pavement, The Shocker, Katostrophy's Wife, Jack Off Jill, Scarling, Tool, A Perfect Circle, The Misfits, The Breeders, and The Pixies. All these bands, influenced us in tiny ways here and there. But we are our own entity.
Favorite spot?
Our favorite spot is CBGB's and Pyramid Club. Our favorite city is Manhattan, cause its the city that never sleeps and the best place to play shows in at the moment.
Equipment used:
We use a Fender Jagstang Guitar that was designed by Kurt Cobain that has Seymour Duncan single coil and humbucker installed in it, and a Fender hot Rod Deville 4x10 Tube Amp, and a Ibanez Bass Guitar, and a bass cabinet with cabinet head, and a Pearl 5 piece drum set, and various foot pedals for the guitar, primarily pedals by the Boss company, and a pedal by Electro Harmonix.
Anything else...?
We also want to give a shout out to some local NYC bands that we love which are Number 12, Love Suicides, Devola, Triple 7, Lady Unluck, She Wolves, Devil Kit, The Syndicate, Imposter Syndrome, Breaker Breaker! Crotch Rockers and a few out of state bands like The Shocker, The Thermals, Broadzilla and Motorpsychos.
