Did you know that Carter is the 42nd most popular last name in the U.S.? Or that Robert is the 3rd most popular 1st name?!?!?!?!? Well I asure you that if you are looking for a guy that loves Jesus, writes music to worship and glorify the Father Son and Holy Spirit AND writes...4th and 5th grade band music...? I'M your man!!!
These days I have mostly been doing occassional solo gigs as I court the lovely and talented Mindy Schott (my girlfriend of 6 months.) I do orriginal contemporary worship and pop rock orriginals from a Christian perspective. There's just enough humor, sincerity, and vulnerability to keep the audience attentive as I share my Christian experience in an attempt to meet people where they are and bring them closer to God.
With the band, we do a lot of "secular" rock covers with a Christ centered focus. That way, people are bound to hear the songs again and have the seed watered.

Why this name?
Well, for the solo stuff, you'd have to ask my mom. I'm pretty sure I was named after the oldest son on "My Three Sons."
Do you play live?
Yes, I do play pretty regularly. Mything to do every year is to get a band together to play at Camp Hope on Bantam Lake in Litchfield/Bantam, CT. Getting to know the teens for a few days and then rocking out for them is the closest we get to being "Rock Stars." The worship with a full band is incredible as well.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I have been traveling a lot and I love that I can just give someone a website to check out my tunes! It makes music more readily available. I think it's good for artists in that people who are sure they like a particular song might not want to take the chance and buy the whole album, but they are pretty likely to download just that one song. As long as they are doing it for pay and not steeling, everybody wins. It also gives unknowns, or barely knowns, like us a chance to be heard by anyone in the world!!!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
However the Lord leads, but I doubt he's leading us there! I like establishing relationships with people I play for so that the music is more meaningful to them and I am there to talk to them about it. Truthfully, so few people can actually make a living tied to a major label. That and you are just a product to them. They don't really care about you. They do have the promo cred though! Indi labels are much better because they are more vested in their artists and allow you to have more creative freedom.
Band History:
Rob has been writing music since 1985, Christian music since 1988, and gigging in the Northeast since 1994. He plays guitar and keyboards (rarely simutaneously) and sings original songs in various styles. The band has taken many forms over the years. For the duration of their marriage Rob played with his wife Christine on violin and vocals. The most recognizable form was the ensemble that played almost every weekend as "Rob Carter and the Blueprints" which featured Rob and Christine as well as renowned fingerstyle guitarist Robert Messore (www.robertmessore.com). The pick-up rock bands I assemble tend to play radio rock with a Christian focus. "I think there is an artificial dichotemy in the American Church between the sacred and the secular. God needs to be part of our everyday lives. Taking 'secular' songs and movies and giving scriptural context for them is more lasting to the general public as they will surely hear/see the media again and will be reminded of what the Lord has for them."
Your influences?
Switchfoot, Vertical Horizon, Matchbox 20, Goo Goo dolls, Steely Dan, Rick Springfield, Marroon 5, Journey (many many moons ago), Small Town Poets, PFR, Jars of Clay, Keith Green, Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtiss Chapman
Favorite spot?
I visited Sydney in July and August of '04. Awesome! Very clean! New York rules (especially the Yankees). Boston Rocks (yah, even the Sox). I may be hearing a call to at least part time missions over seas. Been to Kenya and I'm hoping for Viet Nam next, but that's in God's hands.
Equipment used:
Guitars: 2 Strats and a Tele, Dano 63 reissue, a CORT that is the same guitar built in the same factory as the less expensive PRS's, Squire Jagmaster, a Takamine small body acoustic with cuttaway, an Ibanex classical with a cuttaway and electronics, several accoustics, Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp.
