Imran is a 21 year old Singaporean (in 2001) singer/songwriter who mixes r&b/soul with traditional Asian elements to create his own brand of music. He was originally from the band called, Shouldn't, and now pursues a solo career in music.
Why this name?
I was born with the name Imran Ajmain
Do you play live?
Yea, live instrumentation rocks, but hiphop gigs are cool too. It doesn't drain you out as much as performing with a live band.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It gives unsigned artistes a chance to share their ware, especially those who don't really give a sh*** to being signed.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, I would.
Band History:
1999 - Shouldn't was formed, first performance at Zuma Pub, then first hiphop gig Rhythm&Poetry 99.
2000 - Started recording demo.
2001 - Started performing fulltime Solo.
2002 - Recorded for Triple Noize & TTC from KL
Demo completed.
2003 - Embarked on Gig organizing too.
Your influences?
I listen to R&B and jazz, traditional Indonesian, Malay and Indian, country and pop, and i like hiphop beats alot.
Favorite spot?
Singapore City
Anything else...?
"It took me 5 years and I'm still goin nowhere with this shit, but the important thing is that you don't freakin' give up."
