30+ years of melody, harmony and good times from Carl, Mark, Mike, Pete and Ron.
Why this name?
Mike stole it from a guy he knew in high school who came up with a list of hundreds of potential band names. He never used it, so we did.
Do you play live?
We play live in Ron's living room...that's it!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Democracy in action. It'll take years, but eventually the music industry will collapse in a heap...and none too soon.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
No (as if the opportunity would ever really present itself!). Better to be a small fish in a small pond and retain your humanity.
Band History:
We formed while students at Ohio University in 1972. We all lived in the same dorm. Our actual gigs were few and far between and were limited to dorm "coffee houses" and a couple of private parties. We existed mostly for the sheer joy of making music together. We graduated in 1973-74. There has never been a year, from then to today, when we haven't gathered together again to make music -- even though we're geographically distant from one another. For a long time, we just jammed, singing songs old and new. In the early 90s, we started getting serious about recording (albeit strictly with home equipment), and have laid down nearly two CDs worth of original tunes.
Your influences?
It's always been about the harmonies, first and foremost. There are few higher purposes in life than blending human voices together as one. As children of the 60s, naturally this means Beatles, Byrds, Hollies, Searchers, etc. When we formed, we were also heavily into the entire CSNY/Neil Young repertoire as well. As the 70s wore on, we naturally became enamoured of the offspring of our favorite 60s rockers who went the Power Pop route. Many other bands and artists have exerted their influence as well, but this will always be the bedrock.
Favorite spot?
Ron's house in Cincinnati...the site for most of our annual gatherings. Also, Pete's barn in New York State (our own personal Ragged Glory!).
Anything else...?
Though only one of us is writing these words, I think we all would agree that we can't possibly imagine what the last 30+ years would have been like without Aaron Skye. The music and the lifelong friendship...both have been a very big part of each of us.
