Asatru is a one man Viking Metal project. It was started in 2249RE (1999CE), originally with Steve Kelly (Hostile) on Bass & Mark Brawn on Drums. But after a lack of a live Keyboard player, the band is now a Recording only project. Hopefully if all goes to plan, with more interest in the band, a Keyboard player will come along, and Asatru will once again be a Live Unit.
Why this name?
Asatru is a Band purely about the Vikings and there way of Life. A big part of their life was their religion, Hence Asatru, the belief of the old Norse Gods.
Do you play live?
I have played live only twice with Asatru, in Telford. But have done gigs also with UK metal band "Cancer" throughout Europe and England. And yes, I love doing gigs :)
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Its great, it gives the fans some free songs so they can decide if they like the music before buying it.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
No Chance. I'd sign to a smaller label that deals with other Viking Bands, but Major's can kiss my ass. They have NO IDEA how to manage a Metal Band, as proved on numerous occasions.
Band History:
Formed in 2249RE (1999CE), 1st demo released End of 2249RE. After 2 gigs the LIVE stuff was stopped, due to Lack of a Live Keyboard player (Keyboards are an important part of the Asatru sound). Asatru was kinda Dormant for a while then in 2003 I joined UK Metal band "Cancer", also from Telford. After a Fun time with the guys in "Cancer" Doing Headline gigs throughout Europe and England, I am back working on a brand new Asatru demo, which i hope to have ready early 2005. I am also possibly going to change the band name.
Your influences?
Mainly influenced by Quorthon / Bathory. Other influences were Early 80s Thrash metal bands like Celtic Frost, Voivod, Kreator, Coroner. But the Viking stuff by Bathory was always the main interest, as I was already interested in Vikings anyway. More recently there have been some Awesome Viking bands, like Moonsorrow, Enslaved & Einherjer to name a few.
Favorite spot?
Would love to gig throughout Scandinavia, with other Viking bands.
Equipment used:
Gibson Flying "V"s, love em.
