Why this name?
The band Pinhead Gunpowder named one of their songs "Losers of the Year" after a line in a popular Cheap Trick song called "Surrender" I had heard the song before but never noticed the brilliance of that line until I heard the song "Losers of the Year." since we're all losers in our own right it fit perfectly.

There is also an independent film called "Losers of the Year" by Edgewater Pictures. Though we haven't seen it yet.
Do you play live?
We love to play live shows. It's what we do best. We play every venue that will have us. If you want to book us visit the contact us page on our website.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
We use the internet more often than I can probably account for here. We use it to distribute our music to our fans, we use it to sell CDs, T-shirts, etc. We use it to keep in contact with the fans and let them know where our next show will be and when. We use the internet to contact other bands and ask them about venues we haven't played, sometimes a venue will have a website we can checkout, they have information on the lighting system, pa, speaker setup, etc. We use the web to listen to other bands, contact other bands, help each other get gigs. You can find simular sounding bands and put together a tour using all of your combined connections.
We use the web to buy musical instruments and supplies, you can find all sorts of cheap stuff on ebay. You can read thousands of reviews on virtually any guitar amp, microphone, guitar or drumset before you committ to buying it. Play it at the store and then go home and check the web to see if it can hold up to your style of music. You can use the internet to listen to other bands you'll be playing with. Size up the competition for an upcoming battle of the bands.
You can research annual events from years back and get an insight into how things might play out weeks before you even arrive at the scene. You can use the internet to downloade trials of audio editing/recording software to find the ones you like best, read the reviews and decide whether or not it will do what you need before you spend the money. You can find images and software for making flyers. You can find guitar tabs and sheetmusic for learning cover songs.
The internet can also serve as an endless supply of inspiration for song writing. Stories and news reports can lead to ideas for new songs. A library of information on recording in a professional studio or just in your home is readily available. There are thousands of articles on strengthening your singing voice, or your stage presence. How to set up a stage to achieve the best sound possible. You name it the internet has it.

And then of course there is the Official Losers of the Year website: http://www.MusicForLosers.com
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes I would.

Record labels have deep pockets and could provide us with a professional recording studio allowing us to have our music immortalized on a high quality CD that will be around for years after we're gone. That is enough reason by itself to sign onto a label. Our CD sounds good, but nothing matches the sonic quaility you can get with a label. Labels also provide bands with world wide distribution and promotion, they have the ability to get our band name out there in front of the people. And get our music to their towns. Record labels also pay for tours and we like to play.
Your influences?
People say we sound a little like Green Day. Or we remind them of old Green Day ala 39 Smooth or Kerplunk. It's flattering, and they are a great band. But I personally don't see it, and I'm not sure Green Day would agree with them.
