The artist JUMZ was born and raised in the uptown Manhattan neighborhood of Washington Heights. The son of Dominican parents who migrated to the United States in the late 70's, JUMZ was brought up in a home where all kinds of music was played, "In my house we listened to Pop records, calypso, of course merengue, bolero, and salsa. Whatever was hot in the early eighties, we listened to it." But it was 1994 when young JUMZ listened to the likes of Nas, Wu-Tang, BIG, and Snoop that inspired the young MC to write rhymes. JUMZ,now 23, a man of all the arts is now ready to go toe to toe with the best MC'z that ever graced a stage.
Why this name?
Jumz is actually short for Jumbles its what the hustlers use to call me when they would see me play ball cuz I was always such a lanky kid. It stuck with me ever since. Jumbles is what they use to call cracks back in those days.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
